L. GREENWALD.
NEGKTIE PASTENER. I No. 460,204. Patented Sept. 29, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS GREENXVALD, OF LEADVILLE, COLORADO.
N EC KTI E- FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 460,204, dated September 29, 1891. Application filed December 18, 1890. Serial No. 375,096. (No model.)
To ctZZ w/wm it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Lone GREENWALD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leadville, in the county of Lake and State of Oolorado, have invented a new and useful Necktie-Fastener, of which fication.
The invention relates to improvements in necktie-fasteners.
The objectof the present invention is to simplify and improve the construction of that class of necktie-fasteners which are concealed the following is a speciwithin the body of the tie and are operated g in accordance with this invention.
by external pressure upon the same.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
I11 the drawings, Figure 1 is a rear view of a necktie provided with a fastener constructed Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastener detached. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional View. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view.
Referring to the accompanying, drawings, 1 designates a necktie-fastener designed to be secured within the body of a tie 2 and adapted to be operated to release the neck piece or band 3 by external pressure upon the tie and constructedof a single piece of metal, which is bent upon itself to form a casing, through which passes the neck piece or band 3. The casing is composed of inner and outer plates 4 and 5 and is provided at its ends with rectangular openings 6 and 7, and the outer plate 5 is provided at its side with integral flanges 8, which are bent inward and form the sides of the casing. The outer plate is provided at its upper end with an integral springplate 9, which extends over the inner plate 4 to the lower end thereof and has its end 10 bent inward to form a flange. The flange 10 is provided with an opening 11, through which passes the neck piece or band 3, and when plate 9 draws its flange 10 away from the oas-' ing and into contact with the projecting edge 2 of the inner plate, thereby clamping the neck piece or band 3 between the flange 10 and the projecting edge 12. The necktiefastener is attached to the tie by any suitable means, preferably by sewing, and is provided at its upper end with perforations 13 and H to facilitate sewing.
It will readily be seen that the necktiefastener is simple and inexpensive in construction and readily to be attached to a tie, and is capable of securely holding the neck band or piece and of being readily operated by external pressure upon the body of the tie.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood.
What I claim is- A necktie-fastener constructed of a single piece of metal and composed of the casing having an inner plate provided with a pro jecting edge and an outer plate having formed integral therewith side flanges 8, said casing being provided at its end with openings 5 and 7, and the spring-plate 9, formed integral with the outer plate and arranged over the inner plate and provided with a flange 10, having an opening 11, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS GREENIVALD.
