Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
EGBERT P. WATSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED SPUR-CARRIER, `BOOT-DRAWER, AND PANTALOON-GUARD.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 45,776, dated January 3, 1865;
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EGBERT P. WATSON, oi' the city of New York, county and State ot' New York, have invented, made, and applied 1o actual use an article which I term a Gornbined Spur-Carrier, Boot-Drawer, and Pantaloon-Guard 5 and l declare the following to be a true and accurate description ofthe same.
Figure 1 represents the plate used as a bootdrawer. Fig. 2 represents the plate used as a spur-carrier. Fig. 3 shows a section with the serrations. Fig. 4 is a view of the plate used as a pants-guard.
My invention consists in providing,` a metallic plate, A, with a projecting iiange, B, and screw-holes O, and in attaching this plate to the heel of a boot, so that by the project-ing` iiange the pantaloons are kept ata fixed distance and prevented from getting trodden upon, and also furnish a convenient foot hold to draw orf the boot, for which use it will be found extremely eincient. The plate further serves for a support to the spurs used by military men and equestrians, as will appear hereinafter.
The plate is serrated on its inner face, so that the screws will not be subjected to downward pressure, as clearly shown in the accompanying drawings.
I do not conne myself to the use or' screws alone. I intend for some purposes to employ a metallic or rubber' spring or band, or their equivalents, to slip over the heel orother part of the boot. The plate A is secured to thisband or its equivalent and may be taken 0E or put on at will.
For cavalrymen this is an extremely useful article, for men in this branch of the service generally put a small leather pad on the heel to keep the spur from slipping down. Such makeshifts are not needed with this plate, as it holds the spur up and also serves as a foothold to draw oft' heavy wet boots, for which use it is better than a boot-jack.
1 do not restrict myself to this form of bootdrawer, spur-carrier, and pantaloons-guard, as it may be modified without altering or departing from the principle of my invention.
What I desire to cover by Letters Patent 1s- A metallic plate Yconstructed substantially as above described, so that it can be attached p by springs or screws to the heel of a boot 'o the objects hereinbei'ore specified.
EGBERT P. WATSON. vWitnesses M. M. LrvlNGsToN, C. L. TOPLIEF.
