J. N. PATTERSON.
BREAST STRAP SLIDE. No. 455,494. Patented July 7," 1891.

PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH N. PATTERSON, OF EVERTON, MISSOURI.
BREAST-STRAP SLIDE.
SPECIFICATION f rm ng p rt f Letters Patent No. 455,494, dated July 7, 1891.
Application filed February 24, 1891- Serial N10. 382,563. (No 11101181,)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH N. PATTERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Everton, in the county of Dade and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Breast-Strap Slides; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference markedthereon, which form a part of this specification.
h My invention relates to improvements in connections for breast straps and yokes, or, .more plainly speaking, a device for connecting the breast-strap with the yoke.
The object of my invention is the provision of a connection which can be easily applied to the strap and yoke and which will allow movements of the strap and yoke without strain or drawing upon the animal.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a device of this character which will be of very simple and durable construction, and which can be produced at a very small price.
To attain the desired objects my invention consists of a swiveled snap adapted to connect with the breast-yoke, and a plate to which the snap is swiveled adapted to be connected with the breast-strap and having ignates the hame having the usual rings.
rollers upon which the strapis permitted to move, whereby I provide a movable or virtually flexible connection between said breast strap and yoke and remove the usual strain or side draft from the animal.
The invention further consists in the improved construction and combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter described, and specifically defined by the claim.
Figure 1 is a View of the device applied to the breast strap and yoke to illustrate the application thereof. Fig. 2 is a central sec: tional view of the device detached.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A desdesignates the breast-strap, the ends of which are adapted to be connected with said rings; and O designates .the breast-yoke, all of which are of well-known construction and in connection with which my device is employed.
D designates a plate, preferably curved to adapt it to the breast-strap, and the ends of the plate are bifurcated, and in said ends are journaled the anti friction rollers E, the
breast-strap passing under the rollers and allowing said plate or strap to move with ease. This plate D is provided at or near the center thereof with an opening F, in which is mounted the swivel or pivot G, with which is connected the end of the snap H. The end of the snap is bifurcated, and in the bifurcated end-is arranged the pivot G, which is connected by a pin or the like, as will be readily understood. From this construction it will be seen that the plate can move or travel with ease upon the breast-strap whenever it is drawn upon, and also that the snap can turn in said plate. To the snap is pivoted the spring-actuated plate H for closing the snap, which plate when closed engages in a notch in the hooked end of the snap and securely retains the ring of the breast-yoke,
as is evident. The plate H is formed with the depending sides H, which close the usual opening or passage in the snap, and this limits the movement of the ring in the snap.
From the foregoing description and drawings it will be seen that I provide a device which can be easily applied and removed,
which is of simple and inexpensive construc-- tion, which is attractive in appearance, and which provides a connection between the breast strap and yoke which is practically flexible and accommodates itself to any movements of the animal, and therefore removes all strain from the animal.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The herein-described device, consisting of the plate having the ends bifurcated and the rollers mounted in said ends, the pin swiveled in said plate, the snap having one end connected to said swiveled pin, and the springactuated plate pivoted to the snap, having the sides inclosing a part of the hook and limiting the movement of the yoke-ring.
In testimony whereof'I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH N. PATTERSON. Witnesses:
HERBERT W. SMITH, WILLIAM M. J ONES.
