Description

L. P. KROPP.
(No Model.)
BIB.
No. 453,490. Patented June 2,1891.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 453,490, dated June 2, 1891. Application filed December 5, 1890. Serial No. 373,720. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS F. KROPP, a citizen of Germany, residing at Sioux City, in the county of \Voodbury and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful invention-"to wit, a Babys llib and Crumb- Catcher; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
It is well known that small children of the age of one, two, or three years, while eating at the table or elsewhere, frequently drop their food and drink from their hands, thereby soiling their clothes and the flooror carpet.
My invention has relation to improvements in childrens bibs; and the object is to provide a combination of an ordinary bib with a device which I call a crumb-catcher, made in the shape of ahollow receptacle, for catching and holding any food or drink that may fall from a childs hands while eating, thereby preventing the same from soiling the childs clothes or the floor or carpet.
My invention consists in the novel construction of the parts and their combination, as will be hereinafter fully described, and as the same is particularly pointed out in the claim.
I have fully and clearly illustrated my invention in the accompanying drawings, where- 1n- Figure 1 is a view in perspective of myinvention complete. Fig. 2 is a view showing the independent semicircular receptacle detached from the bib. Fig. 3 is a view showing a section of the detachable strip used to secure said receptacle to the bib, also showing a section of said receptacle. Fig. at is a cross-section of receptacle.
Referring now to these illustrations, wherein like parts are designated by similar letters of reference, A designates a bib made of cloth, oil-cloth, leather, rubber, or any suitable material, said bib being provided with tyingstrings e e for securing it to the person of the wearer.
B designates a semicircular receptacle of rigid material, tin being preferably used; but said receptacle maybe made of rubber, wood, or any suitable material. The sides of said receptacle may be soldered to the bottom plate and the edges of the bottom plate turned up and flattened against the sides to hold them securely in place, or in any suitable manner for securing said sides and bottom together to make a water-tight receptacle.
C designates a flat strip of rigid material, as tin or stiff rubber, provided with suitable slots or openings for the passage of screws and to allow said screws to be easily turned to keep the strip in place or for its removal, said screws being used as means for detachably securing said receptacle to the lower end of the bib, as shown. (I (Z designate set-screws used for this purpose. Any suitable form of screw, however, may be used for securing the lower end of the bib to thereceptacle. These screws are provided with a circular eye or knob for the purpose ot permitting them to be easily grasped and turned in the openings or slots provided in the strip of material previously referred to, thereby permitting the easy removal of said strip and the separating of the bib from the receptacle for the purpose of washing or cleaning the same when desired.
The operation and function of my device are readily perceived from the foregoing (le scription.
Iliaving thus fully and clearly described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a bib having means for securing it to the person of the wearer with an independent semicircular receptacle of rigid material, and means for detachably secu ring said receptacle to the lower end of the bib, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS F. KROPP.
