WILLIAM r. MORRIs, on PARIS, ARKANSAS.
S N A P H O O K SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 449,491, dated March 31, 1891.
Application filed July 22, 1890. Serial No. 359,500 (No model.)
To (all whom it 'mcty concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. MoRRIs, of Paris, in the county of Logan and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Snap-Hooks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to improvements in snap-hooks, the object being to produce a snap-hook which is especially adapted to be applied to baekbands for holdingthe traces of plow-harness.
The invention consists in the particular construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which similar letters and numerals of reference indicate corresponding partsin all the figures.
Figure 1 an edge VlOW of a back-band having my improvement applied. Fig 2 is a side view of same, a trace being shown in dotted lines and in engagement with one of the snap-hooks; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improvement.
Referring to the drawings, A is a backband provided with straps O, by means of which the snap hooks D, hereinafter described, are attached to the back-band, and 13 is a belly-band provided with rings orloops at its ends for engaging the snap-hooks.
The snap-hook D consists of a metal bar provided with a laterally-widened loop (I, integrally formed at one end of said bar, the slightly-tapered body being bent at 6, so as to return the free end portion 2 of the bar toward the flattened loop (I, and at f a right-angle bend is given to the material to project a short limb g laterally, which limb at 7b is bent at a right angle, so as to extend the terminal end portion 1' directly below theloop (Z and adjacent to it. Upon the side of the hook-bar, between the limbs 1 2 of the same, a tlat platespring m is secured by its upper end near to the loop (I, theelastic body of the spring being projected downwardly and across the space between these limbs, causing the free end of the spring to impinge upon the inner face of the limb 2 a short distance from the return-bend e.
In use, a snap'hook having been secured to each side of the back-band by the straps C,
outer member thereof, substantially as de scribed.
2. Asafety snap-hook consisting of the loop (Z, the downwardly-projecting body portion 1, having the upwardly-bent limb 2, the laterally-projecting limb g, and the terminal end portion '6, projecting under the loop (1, and the spring 077., secured to the body portion, substantially as herein shown and described.
