The improvement relates more especially to boX window-frames having the stiles formed of sheet metal; and it consists more especially in the mode of uniting the outer face of the stile with the adjacent structure and with the sheet-metal column, substantially as is hereinafter set forth and claimed, aided by the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, in which the improved construction is shown in horizontal section taken between the top and bottom of the window-frame.
Only those portions of the construction are shown which are essential to an understanding of the improvement.
A A represent the sashes of the window, B B the stiles, O O the inside finish-boards, D D the inside sash-stops, E E the studs of the adjacent wall, F F the plaster coat, and G G the sheet-metal columns which respectively adjoin the stiles, H. H the sash-weights, and I the stool, all substantially as in previous window-frame constructions, saving as modified by the improvement under considen ation, which is as follows:
J represents a strip nailed to the stud E. A similar strip J is similarly nailed to the stud E. The strip is applied to the side a of the stud, and its outer edge j projects outward beyond the line of the outer end 9' of the stud. Theouter face b of the stile is turned at Z) against the outer sidej of the projecting strip edge j, and is then turned again and laid against the face e of the stud, and is nailed thereto substantially as shown. The edge 9 of the column side g is then laid against the part b of the stile-face, and-is nailed to said part b and to the strip J, substantially as shown.
