struction' around the openings l in the build ing as; for example, the window and" door: openings:
One of'theprincipal objects ofthis invention is-to provide for a wall of a thickness thatwill' give an effect of solidity to thebuilding, though stucco isemployed as thefinish I on the exterion of the building.
words, the-in 'ention affords excellent con struction' for-stucco buildings-when it is de-- siredtoproduce a deep window ordoor Another important object is to accomplish the foregoing and i at the same time: providefor proper drainage ofwater from the stucco over the opening soasto insure against'such water running between the stucco 1 and the 'window framei Another important object is to accomplish the appearance of soliditybythe employment of a minimum amount of lumber.
Other obgects and advantages Wlll appear in the subjoin'ed detailed description;
The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention Figure 'l isanexterior view of a stuccobuilding; construction embodymgthe'myen tron, portions of'the'wa ll bemg'broken away to contracttheview.
Figure 2 is an enlarged broken-vertical section on the line indicated by 2 2, Fig; 1'.
Figure 3 is an enlarged'broken horizontal edthe window sash inaunannerwell understoodinthe buildingjart; A." sash stop is indicatedat 11, ascreen guide at 12 and a screen stop at 13. The inner face of the mem- "ber 7 over aps edge face of the member 8 and said members form a right angle within which is a roller screen 1 1. Secured to the member 8 is an interior head casing 15.
Extending across the top of the opening 9, above the members 7, 8, are a series of In other horizontal framelmembers lfi, 17, 18 of'progressively greater thickness and width from the bottom one: to the top. Also extending horizontally below the opening 9, beneath the sill-6, is a series of frame members 19, 20 and 21, of progressively greater width and thickness from the uppermost to the lowermost;
At each side of'the opening 9, outside of the jamb-lO', is a series of vertically extending ' framem'embers 22, 23, and 24: of progressively greaterwidth and thickness from the inner tothe outer. These members 16 to-24, inclusive,-are.secured together and to othenframe: members of the building, not shown, inaJ-mannert well understood in the buildingartL Theiinneriedges of the memhers-16 to 24,4inclusive, are fiush with one another and the'lath 25 of the inside wall 26 is securedfto said members.
The'silllGan'd jambs 10 have angular recesses27 in their outer edges to receive the foundation 28 to which thestucco 29 of the exterior Walliadheres andsaid stucco is extended-into therecesses 27 In the outer face ofithe member 7is-an angular recess 80 toJreceive the foundation 28 and stucco 29 of the exterior wall, said stucco extendinginto the recess 30; 1 The recess 30 has a downwardly'and inwardly slanting. wall 31, a substantial vertical wall 32tand a downwardly and outwardly sloping wall 33'.
A'emetal .drip strip 34 is secured by fasteningmeans'35 to the wall 38 and extends from end to end ofithe recess 30. The strip 34=has a width; greater than the width of the wall 33fso-asto have a portion 36 that projects outwardlyand downwardly from the outerface ofrthe member 7 and stucco 29.
The foundation: 28 and stucco 29 extend aslant from the recesses 27, 30 past the outer edges ofthe members 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, and 23 to=form sloping, exterior wall portions 37 atanangle :tovth'e plane of'the opening 9. From the outer ends of the sloping wall portions 37 .theexterior wall extends in portions 38 that lie in a vertical plane.
The foundation 28 is secured to the outer edgesofthe members 18, 21, Q l-and to the wall of :the recesses :27 30, as indicated at 39.
The construction and operation of the invention will be apparent from the foregoing. It will be seen that walls of a substantial thickness or depth may be formed so as to provide for deep recesses for window and door 0 nings.
It will also be seen that these recesses are amply protected against the entrance of water since any water flowing down the upper wall portion 37 will be caused, by the strip 34, to drip onto the lower wall portion 37, thereby causing said water to flow outwardly and downwardly, thereby insuring against water entering or passing to the interior plaster between the stucco and the window or door framing, as the case may be.
I claim:
1. A stucco building construction comprising a sill, a horizontally extending member above and spaced from the sill and provided with a recess extending lengthwise in its outer face, jambs connecting the sill and said member, a drip strip extending along the bottom of the recess and projecting aslant downwardly and outwardly therefrom, and a wall having a downwardly and inwardly sloping poi tion extending into the recess and onto the drip strip and secured to said member.
2. A stucco building construction comprising a sill, a horizontally extending member above and spaced from the sill and provided with a recess extending lengthwise in its outer face, jambs connecting the sill and said member, a series of horizontal frame members above the first mentioned member of progressively greater width from the lower one to the upper one, a drip strip extending along the bottom of the recess and projecting aslant downwardly and outwardly therefrom, and a wall having a vertical portion secured to the outer edge of the wider frame member, said wall having a portion sloping downwardly and inwardly past the outer edges of the narrower frame member and into the recess and onto the drip strip and secured to said first mentioned member.
3. A stucco building construction comprising a sill, a horizontally extending member above and spaced from the sill and provided with a recess extending lengthwise in its outer face, jambs connecting the sill and said member and each provided with a recess extending lengthwise in its outer face, a drip strip extending along the bottom of the first mentioned recess and projecting aslant downwardly and outwardly therefrom, and a wall having a downwardly and inwardly sloping portion extending into the first mentioned recess and onto the drip strip and secured to said member, said wall having outwardly and laterally sloping portions extending into the second mentioned recess and secured to the jambs.
4. A stucco building construction compris= ing a sill provided with a recess extending lengthwise in its outer edges, a horizontally extending member above and spaced from the sill and provided with a recess extending lengthwise in its outer face, jambs connecting the sill and said member, a drip strip extending along the bottom of the second mentioned recess and projecting aslant downwardly and outwardly therefrom, and a wall having a downwardly and inwardly sloping portion extending into the second mentioned recess and onto the drip strip and secured to said member, said wall having a downwardly and outwardly sloping portion extending into the first mentioned recess and secured to the sill.
5. A stucco building construction comprising a sill provided with a recess extending lengthwise in its outer edge, a horizontally extending member above and spaced from the sill and provided with a recess extending lengthwise in its outer face, jambs connecting the sill and said member and each pro vided with a recess extending lengthwise in its outer face, a drip strip extending along the bottom of the second mentioned recess and projecting aslant downwardly and outwardly therefrom, and a wall having a downwardly and inwardly sloping portion extending into the second mentioned recess and onto the drip strip and secured to said member, said wall having a downwardly and outwardly sloping portion extending into the first mentioned recess and secured to the sill, and said wall having outwardly and laterally sloping portions extending into the third mentioned recesses and secured to the ambs.
6. A stucco building construction comprising a sill, a horizontally extending member above and spaced from the sill, jambs con necting the sill 1nd said member, a drip strip secured to the outer face of said member and projecting aslant downwardly and outwardly therefrom, a series of horizontal frame members above the first mentioned member of progressively greater width from the lower one to the upper one, a series of vertical frame members outside of the jambs of progressively greater width from the inner to the outer one, a wall having portions secured to the jambs and said member and sloping out-- wardly therefrom past the outer edges of the narrower frame members and onto the dri 1": strip and secured to said first mentioned member, said wall having a vertical portion secured to the outer edges of the wider fIaPfH members.
