METAL FRAME FOR DOORS.
Application filed March 6, 1928.
My invention relates to means for framing wall openings and particularly to a frame composed entirely of metal and adapted to be installed with a minimum of labor.
A fundamental idea is to provide a one piece structure comprising a jamb, a stop, suitable molding and plaster terminals, the parts being' formed from a sheet of metal without diflicult bends. Combined with the described structure are means for positioning the frame relative to a wall, together with means adapted to co-operate with a wall anchor for securing the frame against movement. away from the face of the wall.
The invention will be more readily understood by referring to the accompanying drawing, in which- Fig. 1 is a transverse sectional view through a frame and wall arranged in accordance with my invention, and
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2-2 ot Fig. 1.
In the drawings I have illustrated a section through one element only of the frame, it being understood that both vertical and horizontal members are similarly formed. The frame itself comprises a sheet oit metal bent to provide the flatjamb 10 having a door stop 11 formed outwardly Ytrom the metal of the j amb. At the two edges of the jamb, the metal is bent backwardly and thence out-- wardly to provide the jog 12, thence backwardly in any approved manner to provide a decorative trim. The sheet is thon rebent to provide the break 13, and the margin, either in the form shown at 14k in the upper side ot the view, or at 15 in the lower side otI the view, is bent to provide a plaster terminal. The surface 16 acts as a plaster ground, the plaster' being indicated at 17.
As a means for positioning the frame element relative to tile, indicated at 18, I provide the channel member preferably composed ol two parts, the flat part 19 abutting and being welded to the inside face of the jamb, while the fiange 20 projects rearwardly and adapted to lie alongside of the tile. At the inner end of the Hat portion 19, the metal is rebent as at 21 and projected into the space within the hollow stop, the arrangement being such that a continuous dove-tail islotis provi "i the space within the stop. imbedded in the mortar between adjacent tiles with its head in the position shown in the drawings. This serves to securely hold the trame relative to movement in any direction. The anchor together with the flanges 20 insure a rigid connection of the frame to the wall under blows imparted to the stop bv a door, while the anchor securely holds the trame against movement away from the edge of the wall.
The construction is capable of considerable modifications and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In metal trim for wall openings, the combination of a sheet of metal bent to provide a. jamb, molding and plaster terminal, a channel secured to the inner face of Ythe jamb with its flanges projecting inwardly to provide positioning means for tile and means integral with said channel and cooperating with said jamb to provide a dovetail slot adapted to receive a wall anchor.
2. In combination, a sheet ot' metal bent to provide a jamb, a molding and a stop, an angular metal piece secured to the inner face of the jamb, a fiange of said piece acting as means for positioning the metal parts relative to a wall, a portion of said metal piece being rebent to enter the space within said stop and to assist in forming a dovetail groove for the reception ot' an end of a wall anchor.
In combination, a sheet of metal bent to provide a door frame having a jamb and a hollow stop, an angular metal piece secured to the inner face of the j amb, a flange of said piece acting as means for positioning the metal parts relative to a wall, a portion of said metal piece being rebent to enter the space within said stop and to assist in forming a dovetail groove for the reception of an end of a wall anchor.
4.
