METAL BUCK FOR THICK WALLS Filed May 5, 1928 Patented May 7, 1929.
ISAAC A. BAUM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
METAL BUCK FOR THICK WALLS.
Application filed May 5,
My invention relates to building construction and particularly to a, novel buck and bead arrangement for thick walls.
It frequently happens in some types of buildings that the walls are of unusual thickness and suitable means should be provided for mounting a door or window caing therein of less width than the thickness of the wall. In plaster construction. this calls for a plaster return and my invention has particular reference to construction iacilitating the mounting of a steel buck on the face of the wall opening, suitably anchoring the same and adapting the parts to the application of plaster on the two angular faces of the wall.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which-- Fig. l is a perspective sectional viewshowing an adaptation of my invention, and
2 is a vertical sectional view through the construction shown in Fig. 1.
In the drawings, I have illustrated awall 10 which may be of unusual thickness. On the exposed end face of the wall, I mount a rough buck of generally channel shape having a web 11, side flanges 12, plaster terminal flanges 13 and rebent plaster anchors At spaced intervals in the channel, I mount wood blocks 15, secured by nails passing through the flanges 12 of the channels, and to the wood blocks are nailed the jamb l6 or other casing membeu ldoldiug 17 ofany desired form may be applied for finishing the opening.
tr mmed to the back face otthe web 1.1 are clips consisting oi a flat strip or web 18, the ends 19 oi which are bent backwardly at aright angle to embrace the sides of the wall ll). fi liere the application is shade to an outside wall the clip willterminaie sub stantially in the plane of the outer flange l2 oi the rough buck and the stall molding will be applied directly alongside the flange of the buck.
In order to facilitate the application oi the necessary elements to the wall, I- preterably provide corner beads consisting of the bead member 20, web ill and flange '22 directly to the end of the clips, welding the same in the position shown. The flange extends in either the two directions as shown at the right and left hand ends respectively of the construction shown in Fig. 1. This construction not only facilitates of mount- 1928. serial No. 275,432.
ing of the corner bead but materially stifiz'ens airlrd supports the clips inshipping and han- Preferably I strike out prongs 23 from the webs 18 of the clips to serve as means for mounting metal lath 24 on the face of the wall between the corner bead and the sides of the rough buck. I The clips will be positioned so as to overhe the joint between the layers of masonry, the mortar between the joints serving to insure a close fit of the clips with the wall.
Obviously the construction is capable of considerable modification and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims. I
I claim:
1. In framing for thick Wall construction, the combination of a channel shaped buck, of less width than said wall, nailing blocks mounted therein; channel clips secured to the rear face of the-buck'in spaced apart relation and adapted to cooperate with said Wall to hold the buck against movement laterally of the wall and a corner bead secured to the clips.
'2. In framing for walls, the combination of a metal rough buck of less width than the wall to which it is applied, a wood nailing block secured thereto, channel clips secured to the back of said buck in spaced apart relation, and a corner bead secured to said clips and defining a plaster receiving space on the end face of the wall between the bead and the buck.
3. In framing for walls, the combination of a channel shaped metal rough buck of less width than the wall to which it is applied, a wood nailing block secured in said channel thereto, channel clips secured to the back of said buck in spaced apart relation, and a corner bead secured to said. clips and (IL lining a plaster receiving space on the end face of the wall between the bead and the buck.
4;. Inframing for walls, the combination signature.
