Description
March 14, 1933. BAUM REENFORCED METAL JAMB Filed April 7, 1930 I -j7ZZ/7%7 I [54.06 .22 19am Patented Mar. 14, 1933 UNITED STATES ISAAC AQBA'UISE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS nnnnrononn manning Y 1 Application filed April 7,
My invention relates to building construction and more particularly to metal jamb construction. I
An object of my invention is to provide a metal jamb of channel shape in which the side plane of the flanges shall be coincident with the plane of the plaster and still provide a firm and unyielding engagement with the masonry wall. It is common to provide jamb structures of the full. width of the plaster or a great width, in order to insure proper decorative effect, but such structures should include the important feature of rigid mounting relative to the wall.
Thus plaster cracks occur adjacent to the junction between the j amb structure and the plaster.
I have accomplished the desired result in a very simple manner and at the same time 2 provide for the connection of an effective wall anchor.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, in which I Fig. 1 is a sectional view in perspective of a device constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view therei Fig. 3 is a sectional view in perspective of a modified form of the device shown in Fig. l; and
Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view there- By reference to the drawing, it will be seen that my invention comprises a channel shaped metal frame, generally indicated at having the web 11, and door stop 12, and channel flanges 13. The metal frame is adapted to overlie and be separated from a tile wall 14. Connected to the web and flanges is the bracing member 15,,having the spacing portion 16. The bracing member is adapted to have direct contact with the faces of the tile 14. If desired, the anchors 17 may be provided having the hooks 18 adapted to be inserted in suitable apertures 19 provided in the bracing members 15. The anchor is inserted between two'tile and is embedded in mortar, thus providing 1930. serial No. 442,245; I

toward the flanges, ofthe framefmemb'eri In the latter instance, as'is' 'sh'owmthejweb' end face of the tile'wv'allp v v The installation otthe frame member herein disclosed is simple and may: be done, readily by unskilled labor. The complete 'ofthe memberhasdirect' contactwith the device may be fabricated at the shop'be-fl fore shipping to the-job, thussaving considerable time and expens'ein the fitting of the same to the wall. i Obviously, the spacing portion l fiserves' also as a plaster defining portion, the plaster being applied flush with the channel flanges Thus, it will be seen that I have provided a simple, iyet rigid frame member which is braced against lateral and angular stresses due to the force exerted againstthe door stop 12 when in use.
While it is possible that one skilled in the construction hereingillustrated may devise variations and modifications in the con struction shown, and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims.
side faces of the flanges and web to provide a box section at the corners of the jamband their web portions in rigid engagement with an unplastered portion of the masonry wall, and wall anchors engaging said strips.
2. A metal frame structure comprising a channel-shaped jamb member the flanges of which are adapted to embrace the sides of an unplastered portion of a masonry wall in spaced relation thereto, the side plane of the flanges adapted to lie coincident with the plane of a plastered portion, of the wall and flanged filler members rigidly secured to said jamb member and adapted to directly engage said unplastered portion of the wall.
3. A metal'frame structure comprising a channel-shaped jamb member the flanges of which are adapted to embrace the sides of a masonry wall in spaced relation thereto, a
flanged filler having one flange connected to a flange of the jambmember and another flange connected to the web of the jamb member and a web intermediate said flanges adapted to directly engage an unplastered portion of said wall.
4. A metal frame structure comprising a channel-shaped ambmember the flanges of which are adapted. to embrace the sides of a masonry Wall in spaced relation thereto, a channelshaped filler .having its. flanges contacting withone of the flanges of said jamb member and the outer face of its web ,adapted to rigidly engage" an unplastered portion of said wall whereby upon assembling said structure with said wall said structure rigidly engages'said wall.
5. In combination With a masonry wall, a metallic frame structure, said structure comprising a metal .channebshaped. jamb having substantially straight flangesadapted to embrace said wall,,tl1e side plane of the flanges adapted to liecoincident with the planefof a plaster portion of the wall, a
flanged filler member rigidly secured to said j amb member and disposed in close engagement with an unplastered-portion of said wall.- I
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature,
- ISAAC A. BAUM.
