Description
Dec, 29, 1931. i. A. BAUM METAL BUCK AND TRIM Filed Feb. 21, 1929 Patented Dec. 29, 1931 UNITED STATES ISAAC A. BAUM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS METAL BUCK AND TRIM Application filed February 21, 1929.
My invention relates to frames for wall openings and particularly to a novel metal construction having numerous advantages over the constructions heretofore proposed.
An object of my invention is to provide an all-metal buck, bead and combined jamb and trim adapted to be simply and expeditiously installed. The metal buck is intended to be first installed then the tile wall laid in place. Thereafter, the plaster is applied and the metal trim added to cover the rough metal parts and provide a decorative finish.
The invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a sectional view through a const-ruction arranged in accordance with my invention; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective View thereof.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary, rear perspective View of the buck construction.
The metal buck shown in the drawings is of generally channel shape having a web 10, side flanges 11 and marginal flanges 12 acting as a plaster terminal. The edge 13 of the sheet 12 is rebent constituting a plaster anchor- Ears ll are struck out from the channel and adapted to lie alongside of the masonry wall. Projections 14av struck out of the flange 11, serve as plaster anchors.
A wood block 15 is mounted within the channel and held in place by nails 16 or other suitable fastening means, the block serving as a means of attachment of the jamb and trim about to be described.
The jamb and trim are preferably constructed in two sections which may or may not be of duplicate form. In the drawings, the two sections are of identical form, each section consisting of a flat portion 17 acting as a jamb, an angularly disposed portion 18 adapted to engage over the corner of the wood block and to lie against the plaster terminal 12, and a trim portion 19 bent into a desired configuration. The marginal portion 20 is bent inwardly to lie against the plaster portion at 21. The section at the opposite side is a duplicate of that described, a space 22 remaining at the inside edges of the flat portion 17 of the jamb. This pro- Scrial' No. 341,741.
vides for the admission of a screw 23 that passes through the stop member 2a which may be, as shown, of hollow metal construe tion. Screws 25 pass through the flat por tion 17 of the jamb into the wood block. By arranging the channel shaped buck with its flanges projecting toward the openings in the wall I am able to utilize a wood block within the channel as a means for securing the trim, j amb and door stop by ordinary wood screws. This greatly facilitates the installation or those necessary parts of the door opening.
t is obvious that while this has been described as particularly adaptable for the framing of door openings, the same id as may be utilized in connection with the framing of window openings and I do not wish to be limited except as indicated in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, a channel shaped metal buck, the flanges of which project into the door opening, a wood block secured in the channel and a combined metal jamb and trim composed of two sections with the division point beneath the stop, and a stop overlying the division point, the jamb and stop being secured to the block.
2. In combination, a channel shaped buck, the flanges of which project away from the edge of the wall and the margins of which flanges are provided with plaster terminals, a combined j amb and trim formed in two sections, said sections overlying and concealing the buck and block and secured to the wood block and a stop overlying and concealing the joint in said two sections.
3. In combination, a channel shaped buck, the flanges of which project away from the edge of the wall and the margins of which flanges are provided with plaster terminals, a combined j amb and trim divided into two sections along a line beneath a door stop, a door stop overlying the said division line, and fastening means extending into the space between the edges of the sections for securing the stop to the block.
In testimony wherof I have affixed my signature.
ISAAC A. BAUM.
