The improvement relates to window-frames whose stiles are composed wholly or partly of sheet metal, and more especially to box window-frames and to building-fronts in which sheet metal is more or less employed; and it consists in the special mode of forming and. uniting the parts immediately associated with the stiles of the-window-frame, substantially as is hereinafter set forth and claimed, aided by the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, in which the improved constructionis shown in horizontal section. The view includes the window-frame and portions of. the sides, respectively, of the window-frame of the adjoining columns. The top and bottom of the window-frame are not shown, the construction thereof being familiar.
A B represent the window-sashes.
G 0 represent the stiles; D D, the insidefinisl'rboards; E E, the inside-finish stops; F F, the studs; and G G, the weights In the present instance the studs F F do not extend outward as far as does the front face 0 of the stile, and the stile-face 0, before it reaches a point in front of the stud, is turned inward at 0' until in line, or thereabout, with the outer face f of the stud, and then the s Patent No. 451,875, dated May 5, 1891 Serial No. 350,529. (No model.)
metal sheet of which the stile is composed is turned toward the stud, as shown at 0 substantially, and the stile is united with the stud by having its flange 0 nailed to a strip H, which in turn is nailed to the front face f of the stud. The strip is wider than the face f of the stud and the side 2' of the sheet-metal column I is by means of nails 41'. secured to the side h of the strip H-that is, the side 11 of the column comes between the strip H and the part c of the stile, all substantially as shown.
