SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,082, dated April '7, 1891. Application filed May 3, 1890. Serial No. 350,531. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK MEsKER and THOMAS O. ARBEGUST, of St. Louis, Missouri,
have jointly made a new and useful Improvement in Window-Frames, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The improvement relates to box windowframes more especially and having the stiles formed of sheet metal largely, if not entirely; and the improvement consists in the means whereby such a window-frame is adapted to brick and stone work, substantially as is hereinafter set forth and claimed, aided by the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of the improved frame; Fig. 2, a central vertical section; Fig. 3, a horizontal section; Fig. 4, a horizontal section, and Fig. 5 a vertical section upon an enlarged scale.
The same letters of reference denote the same parts.
A A represent the window-sashes; B B, the metal sheet-s composing the stiles; C, the sill beneath the sashes; D, the top bar; E E, the inside finish-boards; F F, the inside sashstops, and G G the sash-weights.
In the place of uniting the outer face I) of the stile with an adjacent stud in the wall containing the window-frame, said face is united with the wall H of the building, and
preferably by turning the face I) inward at b V to form a shoulder which abuts against the end h of the wall, and then forming a flange b upon the part b and inserting the flange in the wall, substantially as shown. The wall, as stated, is brick or stone, and a suitable crevice h is formed in the wall to receive the stile-flange 12 The board E at one edge e is united with the inner edge 17 of the stile, and its other edge e is nailed to the wall H, and between the board and wall a plaster coat I may be applied, as shown.
We claim v 1. The combination of the wall, the metal stile, and the board, the inner edge of said stile being secured to one edge of said board, the opposite edge of the said board being secured to said .wall, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, with the wall and the board secured at one edge to the former, of the metal stile having its inner edge secured to-one edge of said board and its outer edge extended inwardly and abutting against the wall, said inwardly-extending portion itself extended laterally and entering a crevice or interstice in the'wall, substantially as set forth.
