UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH C. HACKER, OF BROOKLYN, NEWV YORK.
COMBINED INKSTAND, RECEPTACLE, AND PAD-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 448,027, dated March 10, 1891.
Application filed August 26, 1890. Serial No. 363,086, (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OSEPH 0. HACKER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, in the State of New York, have invented. certain new and useful Improvement-s ina Combined Inkstand, Receptacle, and Pad-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a new andimproved combined inkstand, receptacle for pens, stamps, &c., and a pad-holder, in which the parts are conveniently united, so as to occupy very little space and to be handy when required.
The invention consists in the combination, with a base having compartments formed in its top and a recess in its side, of a hinged cover for closing said compartments, an inkstand in said cover, and a removable padholder in the recess in the base. I
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved combined inkstand, receptacle, and pad-holder, the inkstand being displaced to open the receptacle and the pad being partly withdrawn. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 2 2, Fig. 1, the parts being in normal position.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The base A is provided in its top with a recess divided by a partition-strip B into two compartments or receptacles O O, which can be closed by the cover D, pivoted at D to the top of the base to swing laterally. An
inkstand E, of any well-known construction, is placed into a suitable recess in the top of the cover D and is provided with a hinged cap or cover G.
In the base A an opening or recess H is formed, which extends inward from one of the sides of the base and is adapted to receive a pad-holder J and a pad I, secured on the same.
The pad-holder is provided at its outer end with a loop K for securing a pencil or penholder.
The receptacles or compartments 0 can be used for receiving pens, postage-stamps, &c.
The entire device is compact and occupies very little space. It can be conveniently carried in the pocket or satchel, and is a very handy and serviceabledevice.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent i The combination, with a base having compartments formed in its top and a recess in its side, of a cover pivoted on the base and adapted to cover and close said compartments, an inkstand in said cover, and a removable paper-holder in the recess in the base, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH 0. HACKER.
