BELT.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 446,186, dated February 10, 1891.
Application filed October 29, 1890. Serial No. 369,678. (No model.)
belts for ladies wear; and the object of my invention is to provide a new and improved belt which is simple in construction, can easily be opened and closed, and is ornamental in appearance.
The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts and details, as will be fullydescribed hereinafter, and finally be pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a front view of my improved belt. Fig. 2 is a similarview showing the front flap open. Fig. 3 is a top view partly in section.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The belt is provided for a short distance from one end with a series of short transverse slots or openings B, through which a fixed or spring tongue 0 can be passed, thatis secured on the opposite end of the belt on the outer surface of the same. Said spring-tongue is passed through one of the slots 1) a greater or less distance from the end of the belt, according to the size of the waist of the wearer. A flap or wing I), which may have the shape of a bodice, as shown in the dra\\-ings,or any other desired shape, is secured to the outer surface of the belt at the end of the series of slots or apertures B, the length of said flap or wing being such that it extends to the end of the belt and is adapted to cover and conceal the several slots or apertures D and the hook G passed through one of them. A springsocket E is secured to the outer surface of the belt at that end of the same provided with the slots B, and the Wing or flap D is provided on its inner face with a button 1}, adapted to engage said springsocket, and thus to hold the flap or wing D in place on the front of the belt. A sliding loop Gon the bolt is passed over that end provided with a spring-socket E before the flap D is closed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a belt provided at one end with a hook and at the other end with a series of apertures adapted to receive said hook, of a sliding loop surrounding both ends of the belt, a fastening device on the outer surface of the belt on that endof the belt provided with the apertures, a flap or wing fastened to that part of the belt provided with the apertures a distance from the free end of the belt equal to the length of the said flap, and a fastening device on the inner surface of said flap at the swinging end thereof, which fastening device is adapted to engage the fastening device on the face of the belt, the abovementioned loop being arranged between the hook adapted to pass through the apertures and the fastening device on the end of the belt, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
