CHARLES K. PICKLES, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO TIIE AMERICAI\T ROLL PAPER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
ROLL-PAPER HOLDER AND CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 446,010, dated February 10, 1891.
A Application filed December 15,1888. Serial No. 293,746. (No model.)
To @ZZ 1070071 12v' may concern.-
Beit known that I, CHARLES K. PIoKLEs, of the city of St, Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Roll-Paper Holders and Cutters, ot' which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Io Figure I is a front elevation of my improved machine. Fig. II is an end view.
My invention relates to certain improvements in devices for holding and cutting' wrapping-paper and the like, and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, l represents a suitable base. and 2 standards or supports secured to the base, one at each end.
S represents segments, the teeth of which mesh into the teeth of the segments 3. These segments are journaled at 9 to the standards 2, and have extended arms 10, to which the knife Il,` is secured. As the size of the roll of 3o paper decreases the segments move in the direction indicated by the arrows in Fig. II, and the knife is thus kept constantly against the roll of paper, the roll and knife moving toward each other. The various positions of 3 5 the roll and knife as the size of the roll decreases are illustrated by dotted lines in Eig. II, the two approaching each other. The result of this is that the point .of Contact beports, segments pivoted to the standards, a
roll of paper supported by one of` the segments, and a knife supported by the other 5o segment, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the standards or supports, two pairs of segments pivoted to the standards, one pair having upward extensions to support the roll of paper and the other pair having upward extensions to support the knife, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination of the standards or supports, a pair of segment-s pivoted to the stand- 6o ards or supports and having extensions 5 supporting the roll of paper, and a pair of segments pivoted to the standards and engaging the irst pair of segments and having upwardly-extendin g arms, and a knife secured to said upwardly-extending arms, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
4. The combination of two pairs of engaging segments, one of said pair of segments carrying the roll of paper and the other pair 7o carrying the knife, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
i CHARLES K. PICKLES.
In presence of- SAME. KNIGHT, Einw. S. KNIGHT.
