Description

(N0 Mddl.)
O. K. PIOKLES. ROLL PAPER HOLDER AND CUTTER. No. 428,523. Patented May 20 1890.
i un UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES K. PIOKLES, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN ROLL PAPER COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
ROLL-PAPER HOLDER AND CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,523, dated May 20, 1890.
Application filed March 12, 1890. Serial No. 343,604. (No model.)
To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES K. PIOKLES, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Roll-Paper Holders and Cutters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to holders and cutters for roll wrapping-paper; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I is a side elevation illustrating my invention. Fig. II is an end view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a suitable base, to which standards 2 are secured.
3 is a spindle having journals 4, which have bearing in projections 5 on the standards.
6 represents the roll of paper on the spindle 3.
7 represents arms pivoted at S to the upper ends of the standards, and 9 a knife secured to the lower ends of the arms 7.
10 represents a gravitating bar perforated to receive and working upon the arms 7. The pivot-point of the arms 7 is back of the center of the roll of paper, and the tendency is move toward the point directly below the pivot.
- The operation of my invention isas follows: The roll of paper being put in position, the
gravitating bar 10 rests upon the upper sur- 3 5 face of the roll of paper, and by its weight holds the knife against the paper roll, and as the roll of paper decreases in size the gravitating bar slides down upon the arms, and
thus draws the knife toward the center of the 0 roll, owing to the pivot-points 8 of the arms being back of the center of the roll of paper.
I claim as my invention 1. The combination, in a roll-paper holder.
and cutter, of pivoted arms carrying a knife, 45
and a gravitating bar riding upon the arms, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The combination, in a roll-paper holder and cutter, of a base, standards secured to the base, arms pivoted to the upper ends of these 50 for the gravitating bar 10 and the arms 7 to 30
