MUSIC-BOOK HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 445,591, dated February 3, 1891.

Application filed January 18, 1890. Serial No. 336,777. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CARRIE A. WETZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Music-Book Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in music-book holders, the features of which will be fully hereinafter set forth and'claimed.

The use of my invention is to hold the leaves on both sides of an open book as the same is being used in instrumental playing.

The construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of the device as attached to a base-board. Fig. 2 is a top view of the device.

In the two views like letters and numerals designate like parts.

When the holders are prepared for use, two of them are attached to a piece of board of suitable length with the clamping-fingers to ward each other.

A is the supporting board.

B is a metal plate with its edges turned over, and on the near side are projections 4 4 to arrest the movement of the sliding frame, and it has holes through its bottom for woodscrews.

0 is a metallic plate bent at an obtuse angle. The base part moves within the grooves formed by the edges of the bottom plate and has the lug 3 resting and adapted to slide on the top of an upturned edge of the bed-plate B to engage the said projections, and also ears in which is held the pivot 6, on which is supported the clampiug-fingerD. This finger is of the form shown and has ears to engage the said pivot. Above this pivot is the spiral spring 2, the respective ends of which bear against the sliding frame and the upwardlyextending part of the clamping-finger. This spring holds the finger against the base-board, and beneath the inner ends are held the leaves of an open music-book.

Two of the holders are attached to a board a proper distance apart, and between them is placed an open book and the leaves are placed beneath the fingers. By grasping the top of the sliding frame and the finger and thereby raising said finger, the leaves are put beneath the same and said finger then released from the grasp, when said finger will securely hold the leaves of a book.

The fiat metal base-plate, the flat metal sliding plate O, confined and longitudinally slidable on the upper face of said base-plate, and having its rear end bent up at an obtuse angle to form a handle, said plate having ears struck up from its edges, in combination with the clamping-finger mounted between said ears and provided with an actuating-spring, and having its handle end bent up above said handle end of the sliding plate to correspond therewith, as set forth.
