Specification of Letters Patent.
OFFICE.
Patented Nov. 16, 1915.
Application filed August 21, 1914. Serial No. 857,965.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GRANVILLE F. GREEX- ING, a subject of the Kingdom of Great Britain, residing at the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented certaln new and useful Improvements in Tablet-Holders, &c., of which the following is a speclfication.
The object of my invention is to provlde a tablet-holder for use by stenographers, etc, for holding loose-leaves, stenographers note-books, tablets, etc., of a simple and cheap form of construction; easily actuated for the removal of used leaves, books or tablets, and of such form as to be easily and instantly adapted for use in the taking of stenographers notes, as for use as a stand in the transcription thereof upon the typewriter, etc.
To such ends my invention consists 1n substance of a board, plate, etc., of any suitable'material, usually wood, a securing device on one face of the plate for removably securing thereon the loose-leaves, book or tablet; and a supporting footpiece pivoted to the edges of the board, etc., on the opposite side, for supporting the board in an inclined position for purposes of transcription.
Said invention is fully shown in the following specifica-tion, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, wherein similar letters of reference designate like or equivalent parts, wherever found throughout the several views; and in which Figure l, is a side view, in perspective of my improved form of tablet-holder, in the transcribing position; the note'taking position being shown in the dotted lines; and Fig. 2, is a front face view of the upper portion of the plate or board showing the securing device, or spring ring-clip, in the open and releasing position, ready for the insertion of a new body of loose-leaves, notebook or writing-tablet.
Referring to the drawings :the reference letter A designates the back-board or plate, usually of light wood, provided on the rear surface adjacent to the lower end with the transverse slot B, adapted to receive the straight bottom-bar C, of the supporting foot-piece D, .usually of brass, or
other suitable metal bent into the angular. U form clearly shown by Fig. 1, the sidepieces' E, being pivotally secured to the edges of the plate or board A, by pivotbolts or screws F, and being provided with the slot G, co-acting with the stop-studs screws or bolts H, secured in the edges of the board or plate, to lock such foot-piece in the transcribing supporting position shown in Fig. 1, in full lines; (the position of the foot-piece in the note-taking position being shown therein in dotted lines in which position it will be Seen that the bottom bar C of the foot-piece lying in the slot B, the board or plate can be placed fiat upon a table or other surface.
At the upper end of the board or plate A, and on the surface opposite to the slot H3, is a lock-plate I, usually of sheet brass, etc., preferably of the form shown in Fig. 2, having the upper side-wings L, and in the narrower rear portion M being provided with the hinge-coil or bead N to receiv'ethe central hinge bar 0, of the securing ringclip P, formed of resilient spring wire, and bent up at the ends into the securing rings or coils Q, Provided at the ends with outwardly facing square shouldered securing slots R, adapted to spring back under the outer sides of the lock-slots S, as shown at F, of Fig. 2, so as to lock such ring-clips against accidental displacement, when in the tablet or leaf securing position shown in Fig. 1'; the release and reinsertion of such securing arches in the locloslots, being brought about by springing them in: ward toward one another.
In order to give a firm stand to the device when in the transcribing position as shown in Fig. 1, the lower end of the board or plate is beveled from front to rear, as shown at T of Fig. l.
I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, a board, a. supporting foot-piece pivoted to the board, having a bottom-bar adapted to lie in a transverse slot in the board when folded down thereon; a stop-stud limiting the movement of the foot-piece when thrown into the open and board supporting position; and a securing-clip secured upon the board on the side opposite to the slot for. removably securing a body of leaves,'etc.
2. In a devicelof the class described, a board, a supporting foot-piece having a straight bottom-bar with side-pieces extending-therefrom at a right angle; pivot studs SCl9iPiLlg the sidepieces of the foot piecc to the board; a, stop limitingthe'pivotal'movement of the foot-piece inone direction; a transverse slot in the board to receive the bottom bar of the foot piece when swung to the limit in the other direction; and a clip for emovably securing a body-0i leaves, etc, to the board. o
