LAST-BLOCK FA ILENING.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, A. J. TEWKSBUEY, of Haverhill, in the county of Essex and Gom monwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Last-Block Fastening; and I do hereby declare that the .following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists, first, in furnishing the piece of metal A, which is fastened to the block B by means of a screw, f, which acts as a hinge, and the piece of metal U of the last D go together with a dovetail joint,.as hereinafter described, and prevents the block from lifting up; second, in the use of a piece of metal, E, fastened to the block B, and follows in a groove in the last D, which prevents the top from moving sidewise.
To' enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I Will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
A is a piece of metal fastened to the block B by means of a screw, f, which acts as a hinge, and under the top is a coiled spring, as hereinafter described.
C is a piece of metal madefast to the last D, With a slot in it, which forms a part ofthe dovetail joint.
Now place your thumb on the top part of A and press it in, and that will throw out the bottom partout of the slot in C. Now the block is free and can be drawn back from the
