UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT HOOP, OF \VILMINGTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ADAM SCOTT, OF SAME PLACE.
SWEAT-PAD FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 442,117, dated December 9, 1890. Application filed June 6,1890. Serial No. 354,431. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ROBERT HOOP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilmington, in the county of Clinton and State of Ohio, have invented anew and useful Sweat-Pad Fastener, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to sweat-pad fasteners.
The objects of the invention are to produce an exceedingly cheap, simple, and removable fastener for removably connecting the sweatpads of harness with the collar-sections, thereby avoiding the usual and objectionable rivets or other fastening means passing through the pads and the collar-sections.
Other minor objects of the invention will hereinafter appear, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a perspective of a section of a collar and sweat-pad, the two connected by a fastener constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a 5 transverse section through the fastener, pad, and collar. Fig. 3 is a detail in perspective of the fastener.
Like numerals of reference indicate like parts in all the figures of the drawings.
a In practicing my invention I construct the fastener 1 from an oblong blank or strip of spring sheet metal substantially in the shape of the letter W and in the following manner: The blank is first bent centrally, as at 2, to 5 form two equal terminals 3, which for a portion of their length adjacent to the bend are substantially parallel to each other, as shown, after which they diverge and are bent to form loops 4. These embracing-loops 4 are designed to takeover and snugly embrace the small 40 roll of the collar and the front roll of the padsection, one of the fasteners being employed at each side of the collar.
6 represents the collar, and 7 the small roll thereof, which, as usual, is located at the front. 5
8 represents the sweat-pad, provided with the usual roll 9 at its front side.
In employing the fastener the spring-clasps are opened so as to receive the two rolls mentioned, and then released so as to snugly 5o clamp the same. The bent portion 2 takes between the collar and pad, and in this manner a most secure connection is formed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 55 The herein-described sweat-pad fastener, the same consisting of a blank formed of spring sheet metal bent centrally in the shape of a letter W, having in weirdly-curved ends, forming opposite spring clamping terminals 60 or loops adapted to grasp or take over the front roll of the collar and pad sections, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiixed my signaturein 6 5 presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT HOOP.
