This invention is an improvement in ourry-combs; and it consists, essentially,in a series of strips of metal serrated on one edge to form the teeth of the comb and each independently but directly connected to a back, which is preferably formed of spring metal, the strips being connected thereto in such manner that the main portion thereof will be free to yield to inequalities of the animals skin, but will thoroughly clean the same, all of which will be hereinafter clearly set forth and claimed.

Referring to the drawings by letter, A B O designate metal loops, formed, respectively, of a strip or ribbon of metal, preferably of steel and serrated on its edge. These loops are bent into an oval form, and the longitudinal axis of each of these ovals is curved on the arc of a circle, as indicated. The same loops lie in the same horizontal plane, though they are preferably inclined thereto, as shown, loop A being nearest the handle,loop 0 being farthest therefrom, and loop B intermediate between loops A and 0. Any number of loops desired may be used; but three loops give six rows of teeth, and I consider them ordinarily sufficient. The loop A is connected on its concave or inner side to a curved angular piece cl by rivets and forms the head of or is secured to the shank D, projecting from the handle H, to which the shank is secured in the ordinary manner, so that the loop A projects equally on each side of the handle, as shown.

E designates a metal plate or backing secured to the horizontal portion of piece d and projecting over and beyond loops A and B to loops 0, as shown. At points about centrally of the length of back E and at each side thereof depend two lugs F E, which are connected by rivets ff to the inner side piece of loop B, thus securing the loop to the back, and at the front of the back depend two ears G G, which are connected by rivets g g to the inner side piece of loop 0, as shown. By this construction it will be obvious that one side of each loop is connected directly to a support, while its front or opposite side is free and can yield or move in any direction, and when inclined to the back the front portion of the loop can have a limited vertical movement, but will impinge against the back when pressed hard against the hide of the animal. This back is preferably made of spring metal, so that when the loops are not inclined it will yield or give under pressure, and thus prevent harsh scratching of the skin, and it may be made of spring metal at all times. The loops being thus flexible will be selfcleaning and will not clog.

Should any loop break, it can be readily removed and another substituted. By lengthening back E and increasing the number of ears thereof more loops can be attached thereto, each loop, it is observed, being independently attached to the back or handle.

Having thus described my invention, I claim I 1. In a curry-comb, the combination of a series of loops formed of strips of metal serrated on one edge and arranged side by side in the same horizontal plane, but inclined thereto, and a back connected to said loops and to a handle, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination of a series of loops formed of a series of strips of metal serrated on one edge and a back piece overreaching said loops and having depending ears connected to one side of each loop to support the same, substantially as specified.
