COLLAR-STIFFEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 440,027, dated. November 4, 1890.
Application led Septembex 30, 1890. Serial No. 366,674. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAYTON GIBELE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manheim, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Collar Stiffener and Former, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in collar stiifeners and formers.
The object of the present invention is to provide for negligee shirts having loose-Howing collars a stiffener and former which will conform to the conguration of the collarand ll designates a collar stiftener and former constructed of a single piece of stiff flexible material-sueh as Celluloid, paper, or the likeand conforming to the general shape and configuration of a collar of a negligee shirt and adapted to lit under the same and preserve the shape and prevent the collar rising. The
stiiener or former has its ends 2 widened and conforming to the contiguration of the points of a collar, and the lower edges of the ends 2 form a point 3, Which are provided with fast-- eners 4, consistin g of hooks 5, extending downward at an angle to engage the points of a collar and secure the stiffener or former in place. The lower edge of the back of the collar stilfener and former is recessed at 6, and when in position the collar of a shirt Will be drawn into the recessed portion and will engage the edges of the same, and will be prevented from rising.
It will be seen that the collar stiffenerand former is simple and inexpensive in const-ruction, and is capable of preserving the form of the collar and prevents the same from rising, and can be worn without inconvenience to the wearer.
A collar stiffener and former constructed of a single piece of stiff flexible material and conforming to the configuration of a collar and adapted to be placed beneath the same and having its ends widened and approximately the shape of the point of a collar, and pro4 vided with fasteners to engage the same, said collar stiener and former being provided at its back with the recess 6 in the lower edge, substantially as and for the purpose described.
