MELMOTH W. HUNTER, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
ATTACHMENT T0 SHOES FOR PREVENTING WEAR UPON HEELS OF SOCKS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Got. 22, Mlle.
Application filed June 15, 1918. Serial No. 240,135.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MELMoTH WV. HUNTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Attachments to Shoes for Preventing Wear Upon Heels of Socks; and
I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments to shoes for preventing the wearing of holes in socks where the heel comes in contact with the shoe.
The invention consists of varions details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of my invention to a shoe.
F ig. 2 is a similar view showing the attachment normally positioned when the shoe is being worn.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter A designates a low shoe, and B designates a piece of elastic material stitched as at C to the opposite sides of the shoe in the manner shown, and when in a normal position Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the before the shoe is placed upon the foot of a wearer, the folded portion of the strip is positioned a distance from the heel of the shoe.
In Fig. 2 of the drawings the strip of fabrie is shown stretched and adapted to be held by the heel of the wearer in the posi tion shown, and which is adjacent to the heel portion of the shoe, and intermediate the sock upon the foot of the wearer and the shoe, to prevent wear upon the sock. It will be noted that the strip is fastened at its ends to the opposite sides of the counter and has its lower edge resting its entire length upon the insole, while the upper free edge of the strip is substantially not lower than the top of the counter of the shoe.
By the provision of the device embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that the elastic attachment may be easily and quickly attached to any shoe and serve as a means of preventing wear in the heel of the sock, which otherwise by rubbing against the shoe will wear holes in the same.
What I claim to be new is:
In combination with a shoe, a sheet of elastic material fastened at its ends to the opposite sides of the counter, with its free lower edge resting its entire length upon the insole, the free upper edge being substantially not lower than the top of the counter of the shoe.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
