Description

(No Model.)
R. STEWART.
TAG HOLDER.
No. 438,769. Patented Oct. 21, 1890.
ttozueis UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT STEWART, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
TAG-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 438,769, dated October 21, 1890.
Application filed March 10, 1890. Serial No. 343,325. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that l, ROBERT STEWART, of Kansas City, Jackson county, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tag Fasteners or Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
This invention is in the nature of a tag and fastener or holder, and has for its object to furnish an ornamental and strong tag and a cheap and easily-operated holder for such tag, my invention being specially adapted for use upon the exposed end of boards upon which various textile fabrics are folded, and forming a neat iinish therefor with paneled spaces, wherein may be placed the number, price, &c., ofthe goods, either by writing, printing, or labeling.
'With these objects in view my invent-ion consists inthe improved construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, hereinafter fully described, and afterward specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a perspective View 0f my tag and holder and part of the board to which it is attached. Fig. 2 is a vertical central sectional view through the same parts, and Fig. 3 is a rear perspective view of the tag and holder ready to be placed on a board.
Like letters of reference mark the same parts wherever they occur in the various iigures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A is the tag, made of any suitable material-such as sheet metal, papier-mache', &c.having on its face side the depressed panels a, and having a flange on the rear extending entirely around the panels. This fiange, together with the said panels, forms a groove or channel for the reception of the loops of the springholder.
My fastenerB is formed of asingle piece of wire bent to form an arm D, lying at about-a right angle to the tag A, reaching to said tag, next bent at about a right angle to arm D, forming the part d, reaching the grooves or channels at c, and is bent reversely, forming part b, along t-he upper rear side of the tag. Again, at the end of b the Wire is bent outward, forminga bow, and thence along at b', reversed in grooves or channels at c', back along the lower edge of the tag' at d', and finally forming arm D', parallel to arm D. The bow projects from the upper edge of the tag and the arms D and D from the lower edge in substantially parallel planes, their tendency being to approach each other, so that by slipping them over the edge of the board C they will bind the board and hold the tag securely to the end thereof.
The fabric when wrapped around the board C will bind upon the bow and arms and assist in securely holding the tag in place, and when the fabric has all been removed the tag can be pulled off, and by changing the markings in the panels may be used over and over again. i
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A tag fastener or holder having on its face side the depressed panels, a flange on the rear side formed entirely around said panels, which, together with the depressed panels, forms a groove or channel, and a spring-fastener B, having loops, which are secured in said groove or channel, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT STEWART. Witnesses;
A. M. GODDARD, A. A. HIGDON.
