SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 438,537, dated October 14, 1890.

T0 at whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, GEORGIANNA FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gloversville, in the county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Safety-Belt for Catamenial Sacks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in safety-belts for catamenial sacks; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved device. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the securing-pin.
The belt A may be of any desired size or construction, and is preferably constructed of an elastic band provided with a buckle B, as shown. On this belt I arrange the shield G, which consists of a small plate or apron of any suitable fabric, provided at its upper end with an elongated loop D, through which the belt passes, and on the outer side of the plate or shield I secure the hanger E, in the lower end of which the rectangular frame F is secured. This frame F is an open metallic loop provided at one of its lower corners with an integral upturned lip G, forming a sheath for the end of the pin. At the opposite lower corner of the frame I provide the integral lugs H, which are bent around the end of the springpin I, so as to securely clamp the said pin to the frame. The pin passes through the end of the napkin J, and the napkin is thus secured in place.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple device by which the napkin will be firmly supported without causing inconvenience or discomfort to the wearer. The napkin can be easily removed from and attached to the belt, and the belt can be readily applied to the person.
It will be readily understood of course that two of the shields are employed-one in front and one behind-and as the belt is not secured permanently to the said shields, they can be readily accommodated to different positions of the body. The shields prevent the pin and its frame from coming into contact with the body of the wearer, and all liability of injury to the body is thus overcome.
The device is very simple and can be manufactured and sold at a slight cost.
By reason of the fact that the securing-pin is of a length to agree with the width of the napkin the latter is held evenly and securely without any folds being made in the napkin which would chafe the wearer. Again, the shields coming between the body of the wearer and the buckle-frame also contributes to the comfort of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is A catamenial sack comprising the belt adjustable in size by the buckle B, the shields at the front and back provided at their upper ends with elongated loops receiving and sliding on the belt, said shields being provided upon their outer sides with hangers depending from the loops and of a less length than the shields, the securing devices consisting of the open rectangular frame F, arranged horizontally in the hangers and provided with a spring-pin, which being located on the outside of the shields does not bear directly against the body of the wearer, and the napkin J, secured in place by the pins, the length of the rectangular frame of the buckle being so proportioned with respect to the width of the napkin and the width of the shield that the spring-pin will engage the entire width of the napkin, while the metallic frame Will be prevented by the shield from chafing the wearer, as set forth.
