Description

G. w. SAY'RE.
x Churn.
Patented' Aug. 9, 1864.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. SAYRE, OF IISGAH, OHIO.
. IMPROVEMENT IN CH URNS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 43,797, dated August 9, 18M.
1'0 all vwill/0711 it may concern:
Be it known that l, GEORGE WV. SAYRE, of
Pisgah. in the county of Butler and State of Ohio, have invented a new and'Improved Ghurn; and I do hereby declare the following a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement ot' mechanism, hereinafter described, throngh which motion is communicated from the crank shaft to the churndashers.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and opera-tion.
A A represent the upright frame work; B, the pedestal or platform; O C, the cross-ties connecting the uprights A A; D, the center of the frame standing perpendicular in the frame and grooved on either side so as to admit the slides E E, which are retained in their places by clamps marked a b F F, pitnien, connected at the top of the slides by small bolts, so as to allow both to move freely with the rotation of the cranks G G, having an alternate upward and downward motion; H H, the dashers, attached to the center of slides E E by pins, which are easily adjusted to the desired place 5 l, the churn, which may be of wood or of any desired material. At each revolution of thc crank G it will ri a lily be perceived that an alternating motion ot' the plungers H H will be the result, diminishing one-half the labor of churning, and effecting at the same time double the result of the ordinary single-plunger churn. ,Y
The advantages in the construction and operation of my improvement are of practical importance, as has been f ully determined in its successful use. The use ot' the doublerabbeted central uprightD, with the clamps rr clasps a b furnishes an economical and novtl means ot' guiding the slides E E, to which the pitmen are. connected; and this mode (f transmitting the motion affords the greateet facility of attaching and detaching the dashers to enable the operator to remove or repla( e the churn.
What I claim, and desire to secure by L t ters Patent as my invention, is-
The arrangement of the doublerabbetedcentral upright, l), provided with its clasps a b, and slides E E, furnished with adjusting pins for the flashers, when operated together in the bmanner described, for the purpose as set forth.
GEORGE w. sAYnE.
