Description

(No Model.)
T. BUGKLBY. ADJUSTABLE STOVE BACK.
Patented Sept. 30, 1890.
Inventor. a%mMfiMA J9 lien/1.
r/ZZZZ m: new: KTERS 00.. mwo-u-r UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS BUOKLEY, OF KALALWIAZOO, MICHIGAN.
.ADJ USTABLE STOVE-BACK.v
SPECIFICATION. forming part of Letters Patent No. 437,282, dated September 30, 1890.
Application filed February 12, 1890- Serial No. 340,219- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS BUCKLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Adj ustable Stove-Back, of which the following is a specification. r
This invention has for its object certain improvements in adjustable stove-backs designed to increase their utility and simplify their construction.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification,Figure 1 is an elevation looking from a point at the right of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section on line 3 3 in Fig. 1, looking from a point at the left.
Referring to the lettered parts of the drawings, A is the main or central casting of the stove-back, and B B are end extensions adjustably attached to the ends of said central casting. The extensions B are provided with a longitudinal slot D, which slot loosely fits onto a lug C, said lug being integral with the main casting A, as here shown, and projecting from the back side thereof; or the lug maybe otherwise attached to casting A. The surface of the metal each side of said-slot is beveled or inclined; as at t '6, commencing a little way back and terminating at the edge of the slot at or near the front-face of said extensions B, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. Avertical holeis formed through the lugs O, and through said hole is inserted a key r. The object of thus beveling the sides of the slots D is in order that the key will enter the hole in a wedging manner by engaging the incline surfaces 1' t' in a curve through the hole, and thus successfully bind the parts A and B together. Another object is that the lug C may be depth of the fire-box, the proper adjustment may be made by breaking off a portion of the lower side in and 011 a line with the creases.
a, as heretofore.
The upper edge of the castings A and B B curve backward, the latter fitting the curve of the former, and this curvature, together with the slots D and the lugs O, form a guide to keep these castings in proper alignment.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
A stove-back consisting of the main casting provided with the lugs, said lugs having the vertical hole, the end extensions having the elongated horizontal slot with inclined or beveled sides, and the keys adapted to be inserted in said holes and to wedge against the beveled surfaces each side of said slots, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of the foregoing l have hereunto subscribed my name in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS BUOKLEY.
