GUN-SIGHT.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, OSCAR A. HORNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eureka, in the countyof Humboldt and State of California, have invented a newand useful Rifle-Sight, of which the following is a speciication.

The invention relates to improvements in rifle-sights.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive construction capable of directing the eye and enabling one to rapidly catch the sight.

The invention consists in the construction and novelcombination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective vview of a rear sight constructed in accordance .with the invention.

Fig. 2-is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a plan view. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the sight elevated.

Referring to the accompanying drawings by letter, A designates the plate of a riliesight,lwhich is designed to be secured to the rear of a gun and lie longitudinally along the barrel. rlhe front endof the plate A is provided on its under side With a dovetailed lug a, which tits in a transverse groove b in the upper face of a gun-barrel B, and the plate a is adapted to be moved laterally and be adjusted thereby to its proper position. The rear end of the plate A, which is constructed of springmetal, preferably steel, is provided with a V-shaped sight C, which is composed of vertical anges or sides c', that are arranged at an angle to each other, and have their front ends c2 beveled and providedwith a sight-notch c, arranged at the point of the intersection of the converging sides. By constructing the sight V-shaped the eye is in stantly directed toward the sight-notch and is shielded from objects at either side of the notch, and it is impossible to make anything but a line-shot when the front sight is in View. The inner vertical faces of the flanges or sides c are blackened or blued and are protected from Wear, andthe dulled portions are not liable to become bright and disturb the aim. The sight is simple, strong, and durable, and is not liable to catch in bushes, branches, or the like, owing to its inclined or beveled front edge.

The plate A, immediately in front of the V-shaped sight, is provided with a longitudivnal slot a', in which fits a longitudinally-movable Wedge D, that is adjusted to elevate the sight, as will readily be understood.

What I claim isl. A sight provided with the converging sides and ianges and having a sight-notch at the point of intersection of the converging sides or iianges, substantially as described.

2. A rear sight comprising the plate A, designed to be secured longitudinally along the barrel, and provided at its rear end with the vertical Iianges c', arranged at an angle to each other and having their front ends beveled to provide a sight-notch, substantially as described.
