DOOR-SPRING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 432,398, dated July 15, 1890.
Application filed March 10 1890. Serial No. 343 ,344. (No model.)
T0 on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADOLPHUS D. Goonwm, a citizen of the United States, and a residentof Salem,in the county of Roanoke and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Springs; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and'use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view showing the device applied to a door, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device.
This invention relates to certain improvements in door-springs; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will appear from the following description and accompanying drawings.
In carrying out my invention I employ a lever A, which is pivoted near one end upon a horizontal bracket a, fastened to the doorframedirectly above the door. This lever carries two frictional rollers or wheels Z), preferably grooved, by means of axial studs 0, riveted or headed into said lever, one at each the fulcrum of a lever C, to which is pivotednear its fulcrum a second lever O, the counterpart of the lever (hand both having their free or diverging ends engaging or bearing upon the peripheries of the rollers or wheels I). The levers G C are held in forcible contact with the rollers or wheels I) by a springclasp f, which engages opposite notches g in said levers, a series of which is provided in each lever. This arrangement permits of the adjustment of said clasp upon said levers, according to the amount of spring-pressure it is desired to impart to the levers to effect the closing of the door with a greater or less force.

It will be observed that themaximum separation between the levers C 0 takes place just as the door passes the plane of the rear edge of the door frame or opening. Conse quently the lever in its reverse movement, as when the door is carried back against the wall, is relieved of pressure or tension. The

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The door-spring comprising the lever pivoted to a bracket secured to the door-frame 2.
