TOOTH-BRUSH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 430,909, dated J une 24, 18,90.

To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS G. WONDERLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Galena, in the county of Jo Daviess and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tooth-Brushes, of which the following is a specification, refer'- ence being had therein to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figures l, 2, and 3 represent side views of the improved brush, showing some of the various positions to which it may be adjusted; Fig. 4, partlya side and partly a longitudinal sectional view; Fig. 5, a view of the handle and brush detached, and Fig. 6 a detail view of the screw-threaded sleeve.
The especial object of this invention is to so connect the brush to its handle that it maybe readily adjusted and held at different angles with respect to the handle, thereby enabling the user of the brush to reach every exposed portion of his teeth and thoroughly clean the same, especially the posterior portions of the inferior incisors and the exposed surfaces of the wisdom-teeth, which itis impossible to reach with the ordinary straight brush, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth and claimed. v
Referring to the annexed drawings by letter, a designates the brush, which may be constructed in the usual or any improved manner, and which is provided at its rear end with a metallic arm or bar a', the rear end of this arm being rounded, as at a, and provided with a pin-aperture. The handle e is constructed of any suitable material and is provided at its Aforward end with a screw-extension e. Screwed upon this screw e is an internally-threaded tube or sleeve h, and pivoted in a transverse slot b in the forward end of this sleeve is the'arm a of the brush. To
facilitate the operation of the sleeve its eX- terior may be provided with a suitable nunr ber of flat surfaces, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, or it may be provided with a milled collar, as shown in Fig. 5. It will be observed that as thus constructed wh en the sleeve is screwed up upon the screw as far as it will go its forward end bears against the rounded end of the arm d', and thereby holds the brush against movement upon its pivot. Vhen it is desired to adjust t-he brush to an oblique angle it is simplynecessary to turn the sleeve or handle sufficiently to release the arm a', and after the brush is adj usted to the desired angle, it may be secured in said position by turning the brush or handle in the reverse direction, so as to cause the forward end of the screw to bind against the rounded end of the arm a.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- The combination of a handle having projecting from its end a screw, an internallythreaded sleeve working on this screw, this sleeve being provided at its forward end with ya transverse slot, and a brush provided with THOMAS G.
