BROOM-RACK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 430,674, dated June 24, 1890.

Application filed March 8, 1890.

To all whom it may concern:

l 3e it known that 1, WILLIAM D. NEELY, a cltlzen of the United States, residing at Waxahachie, in the county of Ellis and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Broom- Rack, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to improvements in broom-racks.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive broom-rack capable of being folded compact-1y and adapted to be readily separated and arranged for use without fitting the parts together, as with the ordinary constructions of broom-racks that are capable of being folded for shippin The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a broom-rack constructed in accordance with this invention, and shown in operative position. Fig. 2 is a plan view illustrat ing the parts in a folded position. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the same.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a supporting-ring of a broom-rack that is composed of a pair of

rings

1 and 2, that are flexibly connected by chains 3 or similar means, that are adapted to fit together and lie, when folded, in the same plane, and take up but a small amount of room, and thereby enable a broom-rack to be conveniently shipped with a package of brooms without necessitating additional packing-space. The supporting-ring is provided in its outer edge or periphery with a series of notches 4, that are adapted for the reception of the head of the broom and are capable of securely holding the same, as the said notches have their sides slightly converging, and the broomheads become slightly wedged in the notches 4 of the ring. The upper ring 2 is smaller than the lower supportingring 1, and is adapted to be arranged within the opening 5 of the larger ring and lie in the same plane Serial No. 343,164. (No model.)

as the latter, thereby making a compact arrangement of parts that take up but a small amount of space, and the said upper ring 2 is provided with a series of perforations 6 to receive the handles of the brooms, which are arranged in the form of a circle around the rack. The broom-rack is supported by a chain 7, which is connected at its lower end with the upper ring 1 by similar chainsS that extend from the chain 7 to various points on the ring and are preferably three in number and correspond with the chains 3 that connect the rings, and may, if desired, be formed integral with them.

It will readily be seen that the broom-rack is simple and inexpensive in construction, adapted to be readily folded together, and made to occupy but a small amount of space, and can be quickly changed from its folded position and made ready foruse without necessitating the fitting of parts together; and I desire it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise details of construction, as I may, without departing from the spirit of the invention, make minor changes therein-such as employing other flexible connections beside chains between the ringsand a similar chain may be made in the supporting means.

WhatI claim is p A broom-rack comprising the lower ring 2, provided in its outer edge with a series of notches adapted to receive the head of the brooms, the upper ring 2, arranged to fit within the opening of the lower ring when not in use and provided with a series of perforations to receive the handles of the brooms, the chains 3, or other suitable means for connecting the rings, and the chains 7 and 8, secured to the upper rings, substantially as and for the purpose described.
