Description

(No Model.)
0. M. DE LACY.
GAP.
No. 430,003. Patented June 10-, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES M. DE LACY, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR OF 'IWVO-THIRDS TO ROBERT SEAMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 430,003, dated June 10, 1890.
Application filed January 2, 1890. Serial No. 335,628. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be 'it known that 1, CHARLES M. DE LACY, a citizen of the United States, residing at South Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Caps, of which the following is a description.
My invention relates to certain improvements in caps, particularly of the class commonly called travelingcaps, which are usually made of silk or very light cloth. My invention is also intended to be applied to caps for persons engaged in indoor and outdoor athletic sports, in which a light cool covering for the head is very desirable. As heretofore made caps for these purposes have been obj ectionablein that they were too warm and heavy, and I therefore seek to obviate these objections and produce a cap which may be made of any-suitable material and shape and yet be light, cool, and a sufficient covering and protection to the head.
To this end my invention consists in a cap comprising a band or brim of silk or other suitable material and a top or crown of reticulated fabricsuch as silk, cotton, or the likethe two being connected by a rim, as I will proceed nowparticularly to set forth, and finally claim.
In the accompanying drawings, in which like parts are designated by similar letters of reference, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cap embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 an enlarged section thereof.
a designates the band or brim, and b the top or crown. As shown, the brim is provided with a lining c, and has attached toit a circular rim (1, to which the crown b is secured. lhe crown is preferably made of silk or cot ton woven or knitted, so as to form an open mesh throughout, and the crown is then attached to the rim by stitching or in any suitable manner. In some cases it will be preferable to omit the liningand make the rim as an extension of the brim.
A cap of this construction will belight and comfortable and at the same time will afford all the protection'necessaryto the head for travelers and persons indoors and persons engaged in athletic sports.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a cap comprising a band a of closely-woven material, a rim d, arranged in the upper part of such band, and a crown b of reticulated material attached to said rim, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 31st day of December, A. D. 1889.
CHAS. M. DE LAoY.
