J. H. MARTIN.
TAG PASTENER.
No. 428,926. Patented May 27, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
V JEFFERSON H. MARTIN, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
' TAG-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,926, dated May 2'7, 1890.
Application filed January 18, 1890. Serial No. 337,320. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JEFFERSON I-I. MARTIN, of Kansas City, Jackson county, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tag-Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in tag-fasteners to be used for the protection of price-marks, &c.,von rolls of dry goods; and it consists in the novel construction hereinafter fully set forth and described.
In the drawings, which illustrate the manner of carrying out my i11vention,Figure1 isa perspective view of aroll of goods, showing my improved tag-fastener secured in position 011 the end of the board around which the cloth or other material is rolled. Fig. 2 is a detail in perspective of said tag-protector. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the same. Fig. at is a detail in perspective of the tag, showing the general arrangement of the figures, words, &c. Any letters, characters, or figures can be used to illustrate cost, selling-price, &c., of the articles on which this device is used.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A represents a roll of cloth rolled in the ordinary manner around a board. On the end of said board my improved tag-fastener B is designed to be fitted, said tag-fastener B being provided with two longitudinal slots 0, behind which are inserted the strips D, which have the cost, selling-price, &c., printed, engraved, or otherwise inscribed thereon. The edges of said strips D are protected from being torn and warping or buckling by the flanges c 0. These strips are printed in duplicate and one placed in either slot in such a manner that one can always be read Without the roll being put away in any particular position. a are the sides of said tag-fastener B, which fit around the sides of the board. I) are the perforations in the end of saidtagfastener by which it is secured on said board by suitable tacks.
Having this device constructed in the manner illustrated and described, the goods, when taken from their places on the shelves, can be replaced without taking the time to place the rolls in one position or with one particular side upward; but, as before stated, the rolls can be placed in position with either side up, and the price-mark, quality, shade, &c., of the goods, which may be marked on the tag, can be easily seen by the clerk without trouble. This will save time and labor in looking over a large quantity of goods, and at the same time the tag-fasteners, being composed of metal, will present a neat appearance and be easily attached to any roll or rolls of goods.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as being new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An improved tag-fastener composed of a metallic plate 13, formed substantially U- shaped in'cross-section, having slots 0 O, and flanges c and c at top and bottom of said slots, substantially as described.
.In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. JEFFERSON H. MARTIN.
