GEORGE E. ZELTMACHER, OF NEIV YORIL N. Y.
COMBINED SASH AND BELT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,793, dated May 27, 1890.
Application filed March 8, 1890. Serial No. 343,134. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. Z'ELTMAOHER, of the city, county, and State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Sashes and Belts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined sash and belt of that class which is used by men and boys in the summer season for concealing the waistband of the pantaloons, the same being also applicable for ladies use, as it can be made up in different colors, so as to match the color of the dresses.
In the accompanyingdrawings,Figure1represents a perspective view of my improved combination sash and belt. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same stretched to its full length; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section on the line 2 2, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the wider sash portion of my improved combination sash and belt. The sash portion A is formed of a piece of textile fabric, of any suitable color, which is provided with a longi tudinal plait a, that is secured by a line of stitches running through the plaited portion, as shown in Fig. To the plaited front part of the sash portion A'is applied a suitable lining B and an intermediate filling C, which impart the required degree of strength and stiffness to the sash and belt. The sash portion A is provided at both ends with narrower extensions D D, constituting belt pieces, which are made integral with the plaited sash portion and its backing, one of said beltpieces being of sufficient length, so that the same can be doubled up and adjusted to the required size of waist by a loop-buckle d, or in any other approved manner. To the ends of the extensions are applied the fastening devices 6 c, by which the belt is applied to and retained around the waist.
By making the sash portion in one integral piece with the narrower belt-pieces a combined sash and belt is obtained, which has a neat appearance and sufficient strength to prevent tearing, and in which the longitudinal plait of the sash portion is always retained in position because of the line-connecting stitches, said plait imparting additional strength and a certain degree of fullness and ornamental appearance to the sash portion, while the fastening devices facilitate the use of the same when applying or removing it, so that the combined sash and belt has a neat and finished appearance when worn on the waist by males or females.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A combined sash and belt consisting of a wide central sash portion and narrower end extensions constituting belt ends integral with the sash portion, said belt ends being provided with a belt-fastener, and said sash portion being composed of two layers of fabric and an intermediate filling, one of said to the other layer and filling, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE E. ZELTMACHER.
