C. E'. GETLBR.
GAMERA.l No. 425,130. Patented Apr. 8. 1890.
f UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES F. GETLER, OF MATTEAIVAN, NEV YORK, ASSIGN OR OF ONE-HALF TO JOHN I. SOI-IENOK, OF SAME PLACE.
CAMERA.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 425,130, dated April 8, 1890.
Application filed March 22, 1889. Serial No. 304,269. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. GETLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Matteawan, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cameras and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters 0f reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to cameras, and has for its object to provide a device of this nature that will be light and simple, and which can be readily and conveniently set up for use and packed for storage, and which when packed will be in a compact form. The case, being folding, forms part of the stand or frame-work for the device, thus obviating the necessity for a separate case for the camera, thereby reducing the first cost to a minimum and increasing its portability.
The improvement consists of the novel features and peculiar construction and combination of the parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and which are shown in the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, parts being broken away, of a camera embodying my invention, showing it folded. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the camera set up for use. Fig. 3 is a perspective detail view showing the devices for securing the front end of the guide-bar and the means for securing the bellows to the said guide-arm.
The case is composed of the two corresponding halves A and B, which are hinged together, the side pieces a and b of each respectively being of equal and sufficient depth to contain the bellows C, with its end frames, between the said halves A and B. The end pieces D and E of the half A are hinged to the said half, the half B being hinged to the end piece E, and the bellows being hinged to the end piece D, as shown. The bellows Cis braced by the brace-rod F, which is pivoted at one end to the bellows-fra1ne (Z, and which.
has a threaded arm f at its other end proj ect ing through the slot a in one of the side pieces a. The thumb-nut f on the outer end of the threaded arm f holds the brace-rod in an adjusted position. The inner end of the bellows C is supported by the bracket G, which depends from the inner frame g and the bracket H, adjustable on the guide-bar I, being held thereon. by the plate t', which works in a T groove @'3 in the said bar I, the threaded stem i" projecting vertically from the plate and provided with the thumb-nnte?. The vertical branch of the bracket G is bifurcated and sets astraddle of the threaded arm g that extends from the bracket H, being clamped to said bracket H by the thumbnut g2 on said arm g. The guide-bar I is pivoted to the half A, and is provided at its inner end with the plate J, which is adapted to come under the spring-plate j, which latter, engaging therewith, holds it in place.
In practice, when setting up the camera, the half B is folded beneath the half A, and when packing' the same the bellows C is closed and turned down on the half A, and the half B folded on the half A and held thereto by any suitable means, as the hooks m, forming a complete case, as will be readily understood.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The hereindescribed camera, composed of the halves A and B hinged together, the end of one of the halves, as E, and the end D, being hinged thereto, and the bellows O, se cured to the hinged end D, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. The combination, with the support A and the bellows, of the bar I, pivotally connected with the support, so as to be turned out of the way, the plate and spring-plate J j, respectively, for holding the bar I in proper place, the bracket H, adjustable on bar I, and the bracket G, connected with the bellows and adjustable vertically with reference to the bracket II, substantially as described.
3. The herein shown and described port able camera, composed of the halves A and B hinged together, the half A having its ends D and E hinged thereto, the bellows secured to the end D, the brace-rodl interposed be- IOO tween the bellows and the half A and having a threaded arm f extending through a slot in the side of the half A, and having a thumbnut f on the projecting end of the arm f, the pivoted bar I, having the plate J, the springplatej to en `@gage with the plate J, the bracket H, adjustable on the bar I, and the bracket G, depending:r from the bellows frame and adj ustab'le with reference to the bracket II, substantially as and for the purpose described. Io
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
