ADJUSTABLE SUPPORT FOR PORTABLE DISPLAY-FRAMES.
Application filed February 25, 1915.
To all whom it may Concern Be it known that I, MORRIS SMERNOFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adjustable Supports for Portable Display-Frames; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawingsconstitute part of this application, and represent, in
Figure l a side view of an adjustable support for portable display frames constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 a broken view of the rear of a frame showing two of my improved supports connected therewith with the ends of the auxiliary feet broken away. Fig. 3 a plan view of one of the supporting guides, detached. Fig. t a broken plan view showing the auxiliary foot turned at right angles to the arcuate foot.
This invention relates to an improvement in supports for portable display frames, and by the term frames I wish to be understood as including frames such as are commonly used in pictures, mirrors, etc., or boards or other devices to which cards or pictures may be aflixed.
The object of this invention is a simple arrangement adapted to be readily applied to a display frame and so as to support it at different elevations and at different angles; and the invention consists in the construction hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention I employ a standard 2 adapted to move in blocks 3, @i, secured to the back of a frame. In the block 4L is a set screw 5 adapted to enter any one of a series of notches 6 formed in the support 2 so that the frame may be placed at different elevations. This support is pivotally connected at its lower end to one end of an arcuate foot 7, and the support is also Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 10, 1915.
Serial No. 10,513.
connected by a brace 8 with a slide 9 adapted to be clamped to the foot 7 by means of a set screw 10. Preferably and as shown, a supplemental foot 11 will be pivotally connected with the foot 7 and adapted to be turned into line with the foot 7 or turned at right angles thereto as shown in Fig- 4 of the drawings.
In Fig. 2 of the drawings I have indicated a frame with a support secured at each side thereof; but it is apparent without illustration that in some cases a single support is all that is necessary as the supplemental foot 11 will hold the support in a vertical position. If two members are used as indicated in Fig. 2 the supplemental foot 11 is not necessarily required. By disengaging the slide 9 from the arcuate foot 7, the parts are folded into comparatively small Compass for storage or shipment.
I claim v 1. An adjustable support for portable dis play frames comprising a standard, blocks through which the standard extends, an arcuate foot pivotally connected to the lower end of the standard and extending rearwardlv therefrom, a slide adapted to be adjustably connected with said foot, and a brace pivotally Connected with the standard and with said slide.
2-. An adjustable support for portable display frames comprising a standard, an arcuate foot pivotally connected to the lower end of the standard and extending rearwardly therefrom, a supplemental foot pivotally connected with the said arcuate foot and adapted to be turned at right angles thereto, a slide adapted to be adjustably connected with said arcuate foot, and a brace pivotally connected to the standard and to the slide.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MORRIS SMERNOFF. Witnesses:
FREDERIC C. EARLE, MALCOLM P. NICHOLS.
