Th s invent on is an folding chair; I l e Chains of the type specified 1n the present application are particularly adapted foruse in theaters and like places and anobject of the invention is to arrange the same in pairs in such a. manner that an aisle may be formed between the chairs 'of each pair by adjusting the same to their folded positions.

Another object is to provide a chairofsimple and inexpensive construction which maybe readily and quickly folded and unfolded to the desired positions.

In carrying out the invention, each of the chairs is provided with a base 10 having a socket 11 at its upper end for receiving the standard 12 of the chair, a set screw 13 being employed for securing the standard in adjusted positions'and arranged adjacent the socket 11 is a guide groove 14 for a purpose which will appear in the course of the description.

A folding chair comprising a stationary back section, an adjustable back section hinged to one of the vertical edges thereof, a supporting bracket carried by said adjustable back section, a slotted plate also carried by said back section, a main seat section hinged to said stationary back section, an auxiliary seat section hinged to the main seat section and supported by said bracket when the chairis in operative position, an arm hingedly connected to said auxiliary seat section, and a stud carried by said arm and engaging'in the slot in said plate to aid in supporting the seat sections in operative position.
