Description

(No Model.)
s. E. GRAPO. Y f v PAINT PAIL, BRUSH HOLDER, AND PAINT STIRRER.
Patented Jan. 14, 1890.
ill/6M0, Ja 67 a/LQ/w Gamma UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SQUIRE E. CRAPO, OF DARTMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS.
PAINT-PAIL, BRUSH-HOLDER, AND PAINT-STIRRER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 419,585, dated January 14, 1890.
Application filed October 28, 1889. Serial No. 328,425. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SQUIRE E. CRAPO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dartmouth, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful device to be used on a Paint-Pail as a Brush-Wiper, Brush-Holder, and Paint-Stirrer Combined, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a paint-pail having my invention attached to it, ready for use, the dotted lines showing the outlines of that part of the mechanism which is within the pail. Fig. 2 represents a side view of my invention, showing the paint-pail in dotted lines. Fig. 3 represents a top view of my invention as it appears when attached to a paint-pail and with the stirrer removed.
The device, with the exception of the blade of the stirrer, is preferably composed of springwire.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
a represents the paint-pail.
b is a double loop of Wire forming the clip to hold the handle of the paint-brush, having notches on the inside of said clip, as shown in Fig. 3, with its ends extending downward on the outside of the paint-pail.
d is a wide flat loop of wire, which forms the brush-wiper, having its ends extending downward and then upward, forming a close loop on the inside of the paint-pail, and then extending downward on the outside of the pail and alongside of the ends of the loop I), to which they are firmly secured.
To the ends of the loops 1) and d at g is secured the Wide flat loop of wire 0, projecting from the paint-pail,to form a rest for the brush when it is held in the brush-holder b. To the loopsl th of the brush-wiper (Z are socured the double loops of wire mm, having sockets ff, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
The paint-stirrer consists of the upright 5 wire n, having secured to its lower end the blade 6. The handle or upright n of the stirrer is sprung into the sockets f f.
In operation, the device is applied to the paint-pail, as shown, and is held in position by the spring of the wire of which it is composed. When the brush is not in use, instead of plunging it into the paint or laying it across the top of the pail, where it is liable to fall off, the handle is forced between the notched surfaces of the holder b, with the brush end resting against the loop 0, where it is securely held until again wanted.
While applying the paint, the stirrer is used by revolving the handle alternately from left to right, thus keeping the paint well stirred up from the bottom and of uniform thickness.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. Acombined brush-wiperandbrushholder v and rest adapted to be secured to a paintpail by being sprung thereon, consisting of the wide flat loop d, the loop I), having notches s, and the fiat loop 0, all secured together and operating as-shown and described.
2. A combined brush-wiper, brush holder and rest, and paint-stirrer adapted to be secured to a paint-pail by being sprung there- -7 5 on, consisting of the wide flat loop d, the double loops m m, having sockets f f, the brush-holder I), having notches s, and the rest 0, secured together as shown, and the stirrer I, having blade 6, and upright n, adapted to work in the sockets f f, when constructed and operating as shown and described.
SQUIRE E.- CRAPO.
