Description

L. HIRSOH'.
JBWELERS TRAY.
Patented Dec. 17, 1889.
WITNESSES:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LUDIVIG HIRSOH, OF NEWV YORK, N. Y.
' JEWELERS TRAY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,640, dated December 17, 1889.
Application filed Aprilfi, 1889. $eria1 No. 306,197. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUDWIG HIRSCH, of the city, county, and State of New York, a citizen of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring- Clasps for the Partition-Strips 'of Jewelers Trays, of which the following is a specification.
Heretofore the jewelers trays and safedrawers were divided by wood or pasteboard strips, of which the former were guided by their recessed ends along side cleats of'the trays or drawers, while the latter were made of inverted-T shape and inserted in the trays or drawers. The wooden cross-strips were soon liable to get out of order, owing to the breaking or chipping off of the recessed ends, while the pasteboard strips did not provide the required separation of the tray or drawer, as they did not retain their position as firmly as required.
The object of this invention is to furnish for the partition-strips of jewelers trays or safe-drawers an improved device by which said strips can be adjusted at any suitable point in the trays, removed at any time, and
replaced firmly in position, as required.
The invention consists of a spring-clasp made of suitable sheet metal or wire, said clasp being provided with bent-up springclamps for engaging the ends of the partitionstrips, and with a slightly-curved body extending at right angles to the clamps, so as to bear against the side walls of the tray or drawer.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective View of a jewelers tray, showing the partition-strips secured thereby by my improved spring-clasps, and Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are perspective views of different shapes of spring-clasps.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a jewelers tray of the usual size and construction. The longitudinal partition-strips B are secured in position in the tray by means of spring-clasps O,.which are attached to the ends of the strips B by means of bent-up clamps b b. The clamps b bbind on the ends of the partition-strips and hold the clasps C in position thereon. The body cl of the springaction on the ends of the partition-strip,
while the spring action of the body (Z retains the strip firmly in position on the side walls of the tray. When the spring-clasp is made of sheet metal, the clamps b b are made integral with the body cl and bent up from the same.
The spring-clasp forms a convenient device for attaching partition strips to jewelers trays or safe-drawers at any desired distance from each other, as required by the articles .of'jewelry to be exhibited in said trays or drawers.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination, with a jewelers tray or safe-drawer, of longitudinal partition-strips and detachable spring-clasps applied to the ends of the strips and provided with a springbody extending at both sides of the strips, so as to exert a spring-pressure on the side walls of the tray or' drawer and hold the strips in position, substantially as set forth.
2. A spring-clasp for the partition-strips of jewelers trays or drawers, formed of bentup clamps binding on the ends of the strip, and a spring-body extending at both sides of the clamping-pieces, substantially as set forth. 1
3. A spring-clasp for the partition-strips of jewelers trays or drawers, formed of aslightly-curved spring-body, and clamping-pieces bent up from the central part of the body and made integral therewith, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LUDWVIG I'IIRSCH.
