HOOP OR TRUSS-ROD LooK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,419, dated December 3, 1889.
Application filed July 12, 1889. fierial No. 317,309. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, RASMUS OLSEN, of Gentral City, in the county of Merrick and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved I-Ioop or Truss-Rod Look, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to looks or fastening devices for hoops or truss-rods, the main object of the invention being to so construct and form thelock or fasteningdevice thatit will be subjected to a central draft or strain, Whereby the liability of the breaking of the rod or' hoop is materially decreased.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, all as will'be hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side view of a portion of a tub or vat, representing the same as it appears when provided with my improved hoop-lock. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective View of the lock or fastener. Fig. 3 is a face view of a modified construction such as I prefer to employ in connection with truss-rods; and Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the lock-block, the View being taken on lines 4 4 of Figs. 1 and 2.
In the drawings, 10 represents a block, the inner face of which is shaped to conform approximately to the contour of the article in connection with which the hoop is to be employed. This block 10 has a bore 11, adapted to receive the hoop or band, and is formed with a shoulder 12, arranged to be engaged by a loop.
In case the lock or fastener is to be used in connection with a hoop, I prefer to form the loop, which engages the shoulder 12 upon one end of the hoop, as is shown in 1 and 2,
wherein 20 represents a hoop, upon one end of which there is formed a loop 21, which fits over the block 10 and bears against the shoulder 12, the opposite end of the hoop being threaded, as shown at 22, such threaded end being passed through the block-bore 11, and the extending end of the hoop being engaged by a nut 23.
By means of the arrangement above de-. scribed I can tighten the hoop so as to bring a proper tension thereon by simply turning up the nut, as will bereadily understood.
In case the fastener is to be used in connection with truss-rods, I prefer to form an independent loop 25, such as the one shown in Fig. 3, and in this case I would employ two of the blocks 10, such blocks being connected by the loop 25, the fastener or look in this case being employed to connect the approaching ends of two rods, such ends being threaded to engage the nuts 23, as illustrated.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a hoop or truss-rod lock, a block 10, formed on its outer face with a shoulder having rounding sides or edges, provided with loop-receiving grooves and a longitudinal bore 11 under the shoulder, substantially as set I RASMUS OLSEN.
