SIMON IIINE GRIMM, OF PAULTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
METALLIC VESSEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,211, dated November 5, 1889.
Application filed November 30, 1888. Serial No. 292,296. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, SIMON HINE GRIMM, a citizen of the Unit-ed States, residing'at Paulton, in the county of Westmoreland and State Of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Metallic Vessels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in metallic vessels-such as pots, buckets, and baskets; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying` drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a Inetallic vessel embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail side view, partly in section, of the snap-link. Fig. l is a detail front View of the snap-link.
A represents the vessel, which is made of sheet Inei'al-sIIch as iron, steel, or copper.- and it is provided in its sides and bottom with annular corrugations B, the same serving to strengthen the vessel and render the same Very durable.
On opposite sides of the vessel, near the upper edge thereof, are secured strap-handles O, each of which has its lower edge broadened and formed with a re-enforcing flange D, and in the upper edge of each strap-handle, at its center, is an ear E, having an opening F.
G represents the bail, which is made of a metallic rod, wire, strap, or bar, and has eyes H at its ends, which engage openings in the upper ends of link-plates I.
K represents a pair of snap-links, which are elliptical in shape, and each of which has in its outer side a pivoted tongue L, that is normally pressed outward by a spring M. The free ends of the tongues engage concave recesses N in the opposing ends of the integral portions of the links. The links K engage openings in the lower ends of the linkplates I, and are thereby jointedly connected to the ends of the bail, and said links K are adapted to engage the ears of the strap-handles, and thereby secure the bail to the vessel and permit the same to be readily removed therefrom when desired.
On the outer side of the tongue L of each link is arranged a spring O, which has a longitudinal slot P, and the upper end of the spring is provided with an engaging flange R, adapted to iit notches S in the outer side of the tongue. On the outer side of each springplate O is a flat spring-plate S, and pins, screws, or rivets 'T are passed through said spring S and through the slot in spring-plate O, and causing the latter to bear firmly on the outer side of the tongue and the engaging flange thereof to iit so snugly in the adj usting recesses or notches of the tongue as to secure the spring-plate to the tongue at any desired adjustment. By Inoving the spring-plate O downward on the pin or rivet the lower end thereof is caused to engage the integral portion of the link K, and thereby form a lap-joint between the tongue and the link to effectually prevent the tongue from being pressed inward against the tension of the spring M and accidentally disengage the link from the strap-handle.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The combination of the vessel having the strap-handles O, with the bail, the linkplates I, and the snap-links K, connecting the link-plates to the strap-handles, substantially as described.
2. The vessel having the strap-handles C, provided with opening F, combined with the elliptical-shaped snap-links K, engaging the opening F, the link-plates I, in the form of the figure 8, to connect with the links K, and the bail G, engaging with the link-plates, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afxed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SIMON IIINE GRIMM.
