N. PETERS. Pnolo-Lvlhox UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLPH PETERSEN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
BABY-WALKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,120, dated October 29, 1889.
Application filed May 13, 1889. Serial No. 310,667- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH PETERSEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Baby Walker and Chair, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of an improved adjustable seat attachment for baby-walkers, enabling them to be used at will either as a chair or walker, as hereinafter fully described, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of myimproved baby walker and chair, with the seat attachment adjusted for the use of the device for a walkeigand with one of the parts of the walkertop detached as for putting the baby in or out. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the walker and chair on line 00 x of Fig. 3, with the seat attachment adjusted for use as a seat. hig. 3 is a plan view of the walker and chair inverted and with the seat in position for use as such, and Fig. & is a plan view of one of the parts of the walker-top.
To the ordinary baby-walking stool a, having the table top b Z) made in two parts with a central opening to encircle the baby under the arms, and with one of the parts detachable, as indicated in Figs. 1 and at, for putting the baby in or out, I provide an adjustable seat attachment for use at times and so that it can be displaced readily and conveniently when a seatis not required, which consists of the board 0, having one of the rungs (Z of the stool for a supporting-pivot, and a slide-bolt c at the free or swinging side to support it when desired for a seat on the opposite rung, and being detachable therefrom to let the seat swing down to a vertical position when it is not required for use; and the seat is connected to the pivot-rung (Z by the rods g,which slide through the rung to allow the seat to occupy the proper central position in the stool when in use, and at the same time enable the seat to swing into the space between the pivotrnng d and the bottom rung 7L of the stool below, the radius of which is less than that of the position of the swinging edge of the seat in use, and where it is secured by the slidebolt 6 entering the socket '6 in said bottom rung. Thus I provide a stool alike useful for walking and sitting, and so that the condition for either purpose is no detriment to the use of the device forthe other purpose. The part 'b of the table-top is permanently attached to the top of the stool; but part b is detachably connected for allowing it to be taken off readily to open for putting the baby in or out. The means of so connecting it consist of the dowel-pins h, projecting from the edge of the permanently-connected part b, so as to enter the holes of part I) (dotted Figs. 1 and 4) when said part is placed on the top of the stool and shoved thereon up to the edge of part b, and it is fastened in that position by the hook-catch '1 pivoted to one part and the stud j on the other part.
I claim as my invention 1. The combination, with the baby-Walker stool having the centrally-open and opening and closing tabletop, of the seat below having support at one side on a pivotal rung of the stool and at the other side by the slidebolt of the seat detachably connecting with the opposite rung, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the baby-walker stool having the centrally-open and opening and closing table-top, of the seat below having support at one side on and sliding connection with a pivotal rung of the stool and at the other side by the slide-bolt of the seat de tachably connecting with the opposite rung,
said bolt also having detachable connection ADOLPII PETERSEN. Witnesses:
