PIPE-HANGER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 41 1,942, dated October 1,1889.

Application filed April 26, 1889. Serial No. 308,739. (No model.) Patented in Switzerland March 12, 1889, No. 598.

To all whom it may concern.-

I3e it known that I, GABRIEL TEUTsoH, a pitizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Madretscl1,in the Republic of Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Pipe-Hangers, (for which I have obtained a patent in Switzerland, No. 598, dated March 12, 1889,) of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to hangers that are used for holding pipes, dad; and the object of my invention is to provide a pipe-hanger which is simple in construction, and which can be adjusted to hold the pipe without requ ring any riveting or soldering, and from which the pipe can readily and easily be detached without destroying or damaging the holder.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of parts and details, as will be fully described hereinafter, and finally pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanyingdrawings, Figure l is a face view of my improved pipe-hanger open, the pipe being shown in section. Fig. 2 is an end View of the same open. Fig. 3 is a View of the other. Fig. at is a face view of the hanger closed, the pipe being in section. Fig. 5 is a side view of the hanger closed. Fig. 6 is a face view of a modified construction, the pipe being in section and parts of the pipe and hanger being broken out. Fig. 7 is a side view of the construction shown in Fig. 6.

The approximately-seinicircular main loop a is provided with a spike or pin (Z, which is driven into the wall or other object on which the pipe is to be held. To one end of the loop a the approximately-semicircular loop I) is hinged by the pivot e, and a short distance below said pivot it is provided with an outwardly-projecting hook b To the'opposite end of the loop a the approximatelysemicircular locking-loop c is hinged by means of a link or staple a, said loop a being provided at the hinged end with a tongue 0, projecting beyond the hinge and adapted to engage the hooked end I) of the loop b. The free end of the loop 0 is beveled or tapered and provided with a slight hook proj ection 0 The pipe R is placed against the inner surface of the loop CL. The loop 6 is swung against the under side of the pipe in. such a manner that the hookb'of the loop I) rests on the tongue 0 of the loop 0, andthen said loop 0 is swung against the under side of the loop I) and its free end moved laterally, so that the hook 0 passes into the cavity or recess formed by the hook W, as shown in Fig. 4, whereby the hanger is closed and holds the pipe securely. When it is desired to remove the pipe, the end a of the loop 0 is disengaged from the hook Z2 and swung down and outward until its tongue 0 releases the hook I) of the loop I), thus permitting the loop I) to drop and release the pipe. In the construction shown in Figs. 6 and '7 the loop I) is not provided with the hook b and the loop 0 is provided on its free end. with a larger hook 0 which can embrace the hinge of the loops at and Z) and is thus held in place.

The advantages of my improved pipe-holder are that the holder can be locked or unlocked very easily and rapidly. No tools are re quired, nor is any soldering or riveting necessary.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent 1. A pipe-hanger composed of a main loop having a suitable device for attaching it to a wall or other object, a loop hinged to one end of said main loop, and a locking-loop hinged to the other end of said main loop, substantially as set forth.

2. In a pipe-hanger, the combination, with a main loop having a suitable device for securing it to a wall or other object, of a loophinged to one end of the main loop and provided with a hook on its opposite end, a locking-loop hinged to the opposite end of the main loop and provided on its hinged end with a tongue adapted to engage the hook on the free end of the loop that is hinged to the other end of the main loop, substantially as set forth.
