PIPE-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 2o, l1910.
AApplication inea January 27, 1910. serial No. 546,338.
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, 'IYILLIAM H. Matilda citizen of the United States, and a resident of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements 1n Pipe-Hangers, of wlnch the following is This invention relates to improvements in pipe hangers, and oJf the class in which the bod)v portion of the hanger is in the form of a ring divided into two separable sections, and it consists in the' novel-manner of con- The object of this invention is to provide a hanger that can be attached t'o a ceiling or other similar support, and admit of a pipe being suspended thereby, or relnoved therefrom, without necessitating the removal of the hangerfrom its support.
The nature and objects of my invent-ion will otherwise be more fully explained in the following specification takenl 1n connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof, and as will also be pointed out in the claims.
InV the drawings, in which similar letters refer to similar parts throughout these'veral views Figure 1. represents a vertical perspective view of my improved hanger in which the ring sect-ions are shown united. Figs. 2
each other. Fig. i, is a section 011 the line, a, b, Fig. l. Fig. 5, is a section on line c, d,' Fig. l, but with 'the ring fastener dropped down into the locking position. Fig. 6, is a side view of the locking parts of the ring sections y looking toward t-he plane represented by the line, e, f, Fig. J1.
In the drawings, A, B, represent the sections of the ring portion of the hanger with- The section, A, .1s provided with a laterally projecting lug. A', and hook A2, at its lower end, A3; and thesection,'B, is similarly provided with a lug. B1, and hook, B', at its extremity, B3. The form of these lugs and hooks is such thatwhen the sections are brought together in the same plane as indiwill -engage and f make a lockedv joint as shown in Figs. l and 6. The sect-ions have lateral recesses,A4, and B4, and are otherwise so shaped that when united in this way,
the ring `appears asthough of one piece and its s 'mmetr v thus preserved. The section, A, is provided with a neck, 'A5, having a head, 'A6, and which may be integral therewith as in Fig. l, o r be made with a loose and swivel joint, AT, and extensible connec' tion, A8, as in Fig. Q.
The neck, A5, of the section, A, is provided'with a pin, A9, which engages with a corresponding hole, B5, in the end, B. of the section, B, when the sections are, united and a looseA ring, D, upon the neck. A, is' dropped down upon the end, BG, of the section, B, thus securely holding the parts toether. The ring, D, has an internal slot,
which when brought into registering position with a pin, A1, in the neck, A5, permits the vring to drop down over the end, B, ofthe section, B, as indicated by the dot'- ted `lines in,Fig. l, or to be elevatedl as shown in the figure. By turning -the ring, D, around out of registering position with the pin, A1, after elevating it as shown, the' ring, D, willthen rest upon the pin, A1", and relnain in that position.
In the form of construction herein shown and described the sections..ca`n be cast and put together' withQut""1icessitating any inachine work, at all". which makes the device verjy simple and .inexpensive in production while being substantial, secure and complete for the purpose iutended.- I
'hen the hanger-is used as a pipe support the pipe can he suspended therebjv or removed therefrom, without. detachingthe hanger from its support, which makes it convenient and desirable as a device of this character.
' The operation of manipulating the sections can heunderstood from the foregoing description and needs no further explainition. v i
It can thus be seen, that I provide a simple land 'inexpensive device that anbe manu` factured'at a minimum cost of production by bemg molded and cast 1n any suitable metal desired` and that the sections of the ring portion of the hanger will fit together without necessitatingv any machine work thereon and the parts can be secureljv united and locked together Without the use of any tool by an easy and quick manipulation of the parts, and that the device is in every wa)r operative and complete for the purpose intended.
. Having thus described my invention what I claim, and 4desire to secure by. Letters Patont, is
1. In a pipe hanger, -the ring section, A, having the laterally projecting lug, A, and the hook, A2, at its free end, A3, in combination with the ring section, B, having the laterally projecting lug, B, and the hook, B2, at its end, B3, and which are adapted to engage with the corresponding lug, IA', and
the hook, A2, of the section, A, so as to make a locked joint when brought together, and the section, B, having a hole, B5, in its other lend, B2, Which is adapted to engage With a corresponding pin, A, in the section, A, thereby securing` the sections together, substantially as specified.
2. Ina pipe hanger, the ring section, A,l
corresponding Ipin, A2, in the section, A,'
thereby securing the sections together, and' the ring, D, adapted to pass over the end, B, of the Section, B, and s ure it to the section, A, substantially as spec'ied.
In a pipe hanger, the combination of the ring section, A, having the laterally projecting lug, A, and the hook, A2, and the pin, A2, the section, B, having-the laterally projecting lug, B,.and hook, B2, at. one end and the hole, B5, at the other end, and a fastening, D, adaptedfto secure the section, B, to the section, A, substantially as speciied.
4. -In `a pipe hanger, the combination of the'ring section, A, having the laterally projectin lug, A', ,and the hook, A2, at its free end, s, and being provided with a neck,
A5, and the head, A, and the section, B.
having the laterally projecting lug, B', van
the hook,.B2, at one end, B2, 'and the other end, B, adapted to engage with the section,
A, and the neck, A5, and a fastening, D,
adapted to secure the section, B, to the section, A, substantially as specified.
5. Inv a pipe hanger, the combination of the head, A, the extensible connection, A2', the loosely jointed neck, A5, the ring section, A, having the pin,\A2, and the laterally pro-2 jecting lug, A, and the hook, A2, at its free end` A3, the Section, B, having the laterally projecting lug, B, an d the hook, B2, atone end, B3, and the hole, B5, at its other end,
` B, and a ring, D, around the neck, A5, and' adapted to secure the end, B, ofthe section, B, to the section, A, and the lug, B, and the hook, B2, 'of the section, B, adapted to engage with the corresponding lug, A and hook, A2, of the section, A, and thereby make Y a locked joint, substantially as specified.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York, and State of New York,- this QQnd day of'January A. D. 1910.
