J. B. HARMAN.
, SACK HOLDER. vN0. 409,195. Patented Aug. 20, 1889.
n PETERS, Phgxc-Lwm npher. Washington. n.0,
UNITED STATES JOHN B. I-IARMAN,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF GILBOA, OHIO.
SACK-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 409,195, dated August 20, 1889.
Application filed March 20, 1889.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN B. IIARMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gilboa, in the county of Putnam and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sack-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in. saclcholders; and it consists in certain novel features, hereinafter described and claimed.
I11 the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a sack-holder constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the upper end of the device and the hopper.
In carrying out my invention I employ the base A, consisting of intersecting bars having a ring B secured on their upper sides, and upon this base I mount a rotary standard can rying arms adapted to support the sacks.
The standard C has its lower end mounted on the base A by means of a pivotD, secured firmly in the lower end of the said standard and passing through the base at the center of the same. Near the lower end of the standard I secure thereto a supporting-plate E, on which the lower ends of the sacks rest while being filled. To the under side of this supporting-plate E, I secure a ring F, which is equal in diameter to the ring 13 and rests on said ring B. These rings serve to relieve the strain on the pivot of the standard, and also to prevent the standard and the supportingplate sagging to one side, as will be readily understood.
In the upper end of the standard I secure a stud or pin G, on which is pivotally mounted a'bracket II, which supports the hopper I. Just below the pin or stud G, I secure to the upper end of the standard the radial arms J, and to the ends of said arms and the side of the standard I secure the hooks K, which are Seiial No. 303,980. (No model.)
adapted to engage the mouth of the bag or sack, and thereby hold the same open and support the sack while it is being filled.
It will be seen from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, that I have provided a very simple sack-holder by the use of which a number of sacks can be support-ed at one time, and the filling of the sacks consequently facilitated, so as to effect a saving of time. The hopper I is arranged to receive the material to be fed in the sacks, and the rotary standard is turned so as to bring one of the sacks into position beneath said hopper. After one sack has been filled the standard is turned so as to bring the next adjacent sack beneath the hopper, thus giving time while one sack is being filled to remove the filled sack and substitute an empty one therefor.
The advantages of the device are thought to be obvious from the foregoing description, considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, and further enlargement thereon is deemed unnecessary.
Having thus described my invention, whatI claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
The improved sack-holder consisting of the base, the rotary standard mounted thereon, the radial arms at the upper end of the standard having hooks on their sides, the horizontally-swinging bracket II, mounted on the standard above said radial arms, and the hopper secured to and carried by said bracket, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiiXed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN B. IIARMAN.
