BAG-HOLDER..
Application filed October 1.53, 1909. Serial To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDsnL C. VICARY, a subjectof the King of Great Britain, residing at Caron, in the Province of Saskatchewan and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in bag holders.
The object of my invention is to provide a light, portable, and adjustable device for holding the mouth ends of sacks and bags while being iilled.
Another object is to provide a grain bag holder so arranged that the device can be adjusted to receive bags of various lengths yand sizes.
With these and other objects in view, the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in. the speciic structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention. p
In the drawings forming a part of this speciiication and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 shows a front view of a bag holder embodying my invention with portions broken away. Fig. 2 shows a top view of the bag holding means as detached from the stand. Fig. 3 shows an enlarged detached detail of the receiving member. Fig. 4 shows an enlarged sectional view on line 4--4 of Fig. 3.
This invention relates to that class of bag holders in which the bag is supported upon a platform, while the mouth of the bag is held open, by means of an adjustably held expansible bag receiving member.
In the drawings the numeral 1 designates a platform of suitable length, which is provided with the oppositely positioned end cleats 2, which serve as supports for this platform 1. Centrally and near one end this platform is provided with an oblong rectangular opening arranged to receive the lower end 5, of the stand 3 as used in my invention, ing the stop shoulders 4, while within the upper end are positioned the pin openings 6, as clearly disclosed in Fig. 1. The lower Specication of Letters Patent.
this stand near its lower end hav- Patented June '7, 1910.
, end 5 of this stand is arranged to receive a in 5 so that this stand may be removably secured to the platform. Slidably held to this stand 3, is the cross .bar 7, provided near the center with the notch 8, within which the stand 3 is slidably held. Near each end this cross bar carries the bolts 9. At- .one end two of the bolts 9 are made to carry the bag holder proper which comprises a preferably round bar 22, bent in the form of the letter C, and ending in a latch head comprising the flat base portion 23, from which extends the dove-tailed shaped lug 24, shown in Fig. 3. The remaining en of this holding member which is in the form of a resilient bar has the shoulder 20, from which is continued the upwardly and forwardly bent portion 20 and from which obliquely extends the stem 19, the securing base 1S, again being obliquely extended fromthis stem portion 19. The securing base is provided with suitable openings arranged to receive the bolts 9. Connected with this resilient member 22, I employ a securing member comprising a flat curved bar 16, having its inner edge provided with a series of dove-tailed seats 17, as clearly disclosed in Fig. 3. `EXtending from the bar portion 16, is the bag receiving shoulder 15, which is also slightly curved from and corresponds to the shape and position of the opposite shoulder 20. From this shoulder portion 15, is upwardly projected the stem portion 14, and from this again is obliquely directed the stem 19 from which is continued the securing base 13, having suitable openings to receive the securing bolts 9 as shown. The curved bar 16 is also yieldingly held by the portions 14 and 19 and the outer edge of this member 16 is angled as shown in 26, Fig. 4. The instrumentalities are so arranged, that the key forming lug 24 may be readily introduced into the dove-tailed sockets 17 in the manner disclosed.
In order to properly hold the cross bar 7 to the standard 3, I reinforce the cross bar 7 along its rear edge, by means of the flat strap metal frame bar 11, which spans the sockets 8 and is provided with the pin opening 12 as disclosed in Fig. 2. Held to one end of this brace bar 11, is the spring 10, having the projecting pin 10, arranged to be held in the openings 12, and extending into the openings 6 within the stand 3, so
that this cross bar is slidably and adjustably to Various sized sacks.
held to thestand This construction permits the cross bar being raised and lowered relative to the base 1.v
The operation of my ple. The bags are mouth end overthe shoulder formingportions and 20, and then bringing the same over the resilient member 22 which has been previously adjusted to the proper size of the bag. In this condition the bag has its bottom reposed upon the platform 1, while the device is Very sim- Ymouth ofthe bag is distended its full capacjmembersmay be compactly folded while not' inruse or while being packed or shipped. `.And having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by UnitedStates Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a suitable support, of a bagvholder comprising a curved resilient member having a securing. base from which the bar is obliquely continued fand then directed downwardly and rearsecured in carrying the wardly, and then laterally in a. curved main portion ending in a key lug7 and a securing member including a base portion from which obliquely extends a stem portion from which ysaid member is continued in a downwardly` and obliquely directed portion Yfrom which laterally curves al section having seats to receive saidl lug.
2. The combination with a crosslbar ofa bag holder comprising acurved resilient bar atone end having aiiat latchhead with a dove-tailed keyl lug,v and at. the VVremaining end having a; bag supporting shoulder portion from which 1s continuedat right angles a supporting stemh from, which extends obliquely to said kshoulder* portion, a perforated seouring base, meansY to securefsaid base to one end of said cross bar, a securing member comprising' a fiat curved bladehaving its inner` edge provided with a series of dove-tailed*seats,` said (blade having abagreceiving shoulder from which is continued a supporting stem ending in arsecuring base held at'rightrangles to said stem, and means to securefsa'id vbase to the remainingend of said cross bar. v A
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presenceof two witnesses.r Y
