(No Model.)
A. H. CARROLL.
HOOP CLAMP.
No. 408,080. Patented July 30, 1889.
ATTORNEYS N PETERS. Ph'uwLnhographur, Washington. 11::
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER H. CARROLL, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOOF-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 408,080, dated July 30, 1889.
Application filed March 1, 1889. Serial No. 301,596. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER I'LCARROLL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hoof-Clamps, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a hoof-clamp more particularly designed for holding the parts of a split hoof until they have united, the same being an improvement on the clamp shown in the Letters Patent No. 309,690, granted to me on the 23d day of December, A.D. 1884:, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a hoof-clamp embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings, A and B designate clips whose inner ends are rabbeted and whose outer ends are formed with teeth or pron C, said inner ends overlapping one another, as will be seen in both figures.
D designates a screw, which passes freely through the clip B and engages with the threaded socket E in the clip A, whereby the clips may be readily separated and closed or moved to and from each other.
It will be seen that the prongs C are inserted in recesses or openings in the hoof on opposite sides of the split or crack. The screw is then rotated, whereby the clips and consequently the prongs are drawn toward each other, the effect of which is the closing of the split or cracked portions of the hoof and holding of the same in contact. \Vhen the union has been accomplished, the screw is properly rotated, whereby the clips separate, thus relieving the prongs of their holding action on the hoof, the clamp then being readily removable.
I am aware that it is not new to construct a hoof-clamp of sections united by a bolt and nut; but, so far as I am aware, the screwthreaded end of said bolt is exposed, but in the construction herein set forth the bolt is secured in a socket, so that the screw-threads thereof are protected.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A hoof-clamp consisting of sections each having prongs at its outer end, and one of the parts having a threaded socket, and a screw working through an openingin the other portion and in said socket, said parts combined substantially as described.
ALEXANDER H. CARROLL.
