Description
R. E L E E H S M C CLAMP.
Patented Oct. l0, 1882. -F I- INV ENT-@IIL- UNITED' STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES M. SHEELER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
CLAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 265,640, dated October 10,1882.
Application filed July 13, 1882.
To all whom it m dy concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES M. SHEELER, of the city of Baltimore, and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Clamps, ot' which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to an improved device for holding the two or more parts ot' a moldingtlask together, and for other purposes 5 and it consists in forming the clamp in two hollow threaded parts or sections and connecting the same by means of a screw having right and left hand threads.
It further consists in a peculiar formation of the adjoining ends ot' the two members of the clamps, whereby in the movement of the screw they are retained in the same relative positions.
In the further description of my invention, which follows, reference is made to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, and in which- FigureIis a perspective view of a flask, showing two of my improved clamps in position. Figs. II, III, IV are detail views of parts of the invention on an enlarged scale.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate similar parts in all the views. 1
A and B are the two sections of the clamp, having respectively an interior right and left hand thread.
C is the screw, having threads correspond ing to those in the two sections of the clamp. The ends of the screw are made polygonal, or
(No model.)
of some other shape that will admit of the screw being turned by means ot awrench, D. (Shown in Fig. I.)
The inner ends of the camp-sections are notched to interlock, and thereby retain thev said sections in a common relative position. The notches and the correspondingly-shaped projections formed by the notches are of such length as to admit of considerable extension and contraction of the device without detaching the two parts ot' the same, as will be seen by reference to the drawings.
I do not claim broadly a clamp having two sections interiorly threaded in opposite directions, combined with a stem having a right and left hand thread, the said sections being provided with means to retain them in a common relative position, as such construction is found in various kinds ot' Wrenches; but
What I do claim is- A clamp which consists ot the sections A and B, interiorly threaded in opposite directions, having their inner ends notched, so as to interlock, and thereby prevent independent rotation of the said sections, and adapted to admit of the longitudinal extension and contraction of the same, combined with the screw C, substantially as specified.
CHARLES M. SHEELER.
