MILLARD N. DRAKE, OF HANOVER, MICHIGAN.
i FELTQBOOT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 407,774, dated July 30, 1889.
Application filed October 29, 1888. Serial No. 289,395. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, lVIILLARD N. DRAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hanover, in the county of Jackson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improt ements in Felt Boots, &c., of which the following is a specification, reference bein g had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in felt boots and similar footwear; and the invention consist-s in the peculiar means provided for enabling the wearer to more readily remove the boot from the foot, all as more fully hereinafter described.
In the drawings which accompany this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a felt boot provided with my improvement, and
Fig. 2 is a vertical central longitudinal section through Fig. 1.
As is well known to all wearers of this class of foot-wear, great difficulty is experienced, after continued use, in withdrawing felt boots from the feet, it being customary to wear these boots, in connection with rubbers, over the foot portion, which so heats the feet of the wearer as to cause this difficulty in endeavoring to take them off. Beyond this, the soft nature of the felt and the fact of its even texture at all points make it very difficult to obtain any hold on the boot to withdraw it.
In the drawings, A designates the boot or.
conform closely to the shape of the heel. This strap consists of two parts, as shown in Fig. 2,- the part E being an interior strap of less length, secured at each end to the outer strap and at its center to the point G of the felt boot, thus forming the open loop H. This construction allows of the distribution of the strain upon the three points of contact O, D, and G, and thus no liability of damage to the boot will arise in its use. Many wearers of this class of boots, after some little experience of the trouble of withdrawing them after wearing, have discarded them, and thus much damage has been done to the trade in this line solely for the Want of some simple device to aid the wearer in easily and expeditiously removing such boots.
From an experience extending over a considerable time it has been demonstrated that my device will accomplish this result and at an inappreciable increase in expense.
- WVhat I claim as my invention is In felt boots and similar foot-wear, a heelstrap consisting of an outer strap secured at the points 0 and D of the boot, and the inner strap E, secured at its ends to an exterior strap and at its middle to the boot, substantially as described.
' In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses, this 8th day of October, 1888.
MILLARD N. DRAKE.
itnesses:
JAMES WHITTEMORE, P. M. HULBERT.
